With many people making “new year, new me” resolutions, the time is ripe to involve patients in their health journey toward achieving optimal wellness. It’s also an excellent time to encourage patients to schedule annual check-ups, giving you the opportunity to review important health benchmarks together and discuss lifestyle changes to improve their overall well-being over the next year.

Many people have recently looked at the songs they listened to most last year on their 2023 Spotify Wrapped or Apple Music Replay ‘23 playlists. It’s fascinating to see a visual representation of the music to which each of us gravitates — and we set out to discover the impact of waiting room soundtracks on patients’ morale and even their levels of honesty with their doctors.

We surveyed 1,002 Americans about their health habits and music preferences and looked at playlists on Spotify with “waiting room” in the title, focusing specifically on medical offices, to see which songs were played the most. We found that the most common genres on waiting room playlists are:

  1. Rock
  2. Pop
  3. Hip-hop/Rap
  4. Country
  5. R&B/Soul

Additionally, the top 5 most common artists on waiting room playlists are:

  1. Taylor Swift
  2. The Beatles
  3. Maroon 5
  4. Ed Sheeran
  5. Fleetwood Mac

These findings can support medical practices looking to provide the best possible waiting room experience for their patients. To find out what genres patients least want to hear in a waiting room, plus more fascinating statistics on how music impacts patients in medical offices, take a look at the full article.
