This week, uncover tips for practicing cultural competence, calculating your no-show rate, and more.
In 1966, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health is the most shocking and inhuman.” As we honor Dr. King's legacy in the ongoing fight for equality and justice, we are reminded of the healthcare disparities that still exist today.
Independent practices have a unique opportunity to provide care to underserved communities, helping to advance Dr. King's vision of healthcare access for all. We recognize the providers working to address biases and obstacles that perpetuate inequality in healthcare outcomes, and finding ways to better serve vulnerable patient populations.

CHART OF THE WEEK

Tebra surveyed 1,146 patients to discover their perceptions of how independent practices compare to health systems and corporate-based practices. The results revealed that 51% of patients feel like they get better quality of care from independent practice providers. Patients’ top 3 reasons for preferring them over corporate/health-system providers are:
- More personal relationships
- Feel the quality of care is higher
- Insurance is accepted
With quality, personalized care already in place, improving convenience and service levels will allow private practices to better meet their patients’ needs and preferences across the board.
