Why Urology?
The biggest reason I chose urology is that you go to medical school and do all of these rotations. The ones I kept enjoying the most and had the most fun seemed to be the urologists. There are very few specialties that allow you to follow patients throughout their entire life; kidney stones, for instance, is a life-long disease. So you establish relationships with these patients. You get a unique combination of patient relationships and continue to do surgical-related procedures. It makes it unique compared to a lot of other medical fields. I treat patients the same way I want to be treated. It goes a long way with the empathy you portray. Empathy is difficult for people to know how to express when you haven't gone through it yourself. That is a huge part of how we manage our practice.

Kjell Youngren, MD, brings nearly 20 years of urology experience to Advanced Urology in Cedar Knolls, New Jersey. Daniel Caruso, MD, is a surgeon and urologist at Oceanside Urology LLC in Jupiter, Florida.
