Dr. Bernhard grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, where he graduated with an undergraduate degree from John Carroll University in biology and from podiatric medical school at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. From there, he completed a three-year rearfoot and ankle certified medical and surgical residency at Kingwood Medical Center, part of the Greater Texas Educational Foundation, in Houston, Texas. He met Dr. Kaitlyn Bernhard while in medical school, and they have been working separately in private practice in Colorado since residency. Together, they have two young children and opened Tussey Mountain Foot & Ankle Specialists. Dr. Bernhard is an avid skier, reader, and disc golfer, a competent mountain biker and hiker, and a board game geek.
Dr. Andrew Bernhard is happy to help with any foot and ankle conditions, with conservative options when possible and surgical options when necessary. These can range from the treatment of common nail and skin conditions to complicated foot and ankle reconstructions and everything in between. Kaitlyn Bernhard, DPM, is a foot and ankle surgeon practicing at Tussey Mountain Foot & Ankle Specialists located in State College, Pennsylvania.
Originally from central Pennsylvania, Dr. Bernhard completed her undergraduate studies at Mercyhurst University with honors in a Bachelor of Science in biology. Following in her father’s footsteps, she received her doctorate at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. A 2017 graduate from Highlands-Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Podiatric Medicine and Surgery residency program in Denver, Colorado, she was extensively trained in reconstructive and trauma surgery involving the forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle.
Dr. Bernhard is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. She is credentialed at Mount Nittany Medical Center and Penn Highlands Huntingdon. Her husband, Andrew Bernhard, DPM, is also a podiatrist. They previously lived in Colorado and decided to move back to Pennsylvania to be closer to family and work together.
Outside of podiatry, Dr. Bernhard and her husband enjoy spending time with their two kids and two dogs. Together they enjoy skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and baking. Dr. Bernhard is an avid runner and has completed dozens of ultramarathons and trail races.
As a foot and ankle surgeon and clinician, Dr. Bernhard believes improving her patients’ lower extremity health will allow them the opportunity to pursue an active and healthy lifestyle for longevity.
