He is board certified in general surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS).

Dr. Sutker was born in Plano, Texas, and graduated from Plano Senior High School.
