Dr. Tran graduated with Honors from the program. He also received his board certification in emergency medicine from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

He practiced emergency medicine both in the military and the private sector. Dr. Tran is very proud of his service in the military as a Major in the United States Air Force. During his career in the Air Force, he served as Medical Director of the emergency medical service at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. His surgical career began as a surgical intern at the Presbyterian Medical Center University of Pennsylvania, and then he completed his surgical residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Temple University. He completed a fellowship in transplant surgery at the Medical College of Virginia (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia. 

After 30 years of board certification with the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Baquero is now a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. He has written over 25 scientific articles in national and international journals, as well as a book chapter. He is actively engaged with several organizations to fight against transplant tourism and organ trafficking, assuring an ethical practice of transplantation around the world.
