Dr. Smith received his Bachelor of Science in physics and math from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He then went on to work on a doctorate in physics at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The death of his father during the third year of his doctorate program led to the re-evaluation of goals and ultimately to medical school. In 2009, Dr. Smith completed medical school at Ohio University in Athens, where he obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.
