Dr. Smith received his Bachelor of Science in physics and math from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He then went on to work on a doctorate in physics at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The death of his father during the third year of his doctorate program led to the re-evaluation of goals and ultimately to medical school. In 2009, Dr. Smith completed medical school at Ohio University in Athens, where he obtained his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. He continued his medical education as an intern at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York.
