Shawnte’ Farmer is board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. She specializes in treating many psychiatric diagnoses, including Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Bipolar, addiction, and several other psychiatric symptoms. She believes a holistic approach to treating the mind and body is necessary to create significant and lasting positive change. Her approach to implementing these changes includes a wide variety of services to assess, diagnose, and treat mental and physical needs individually.
She does not believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Her assessments are meticulous, encompassing a detailed examination of your medical history, an evaluation of past and present symptoms, and the utilization of additional diagnostic tools, such as genetic testing, laboratory analyses, and psychological tests. These comprehensive assessments aim to gain a holistic understanding of your distinct individual history and current needs. Psychiatric assessments provide a foundation for creating a unique, individualized, and collaborative treatment plan to address present symptoms and, more importantly, the core issues that need to be addressed to find relief and pave the way for future success.
After completing her Bachelor of Science at Arkansas State University, Shawnte’ attended the University of South Alabama to complete her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctorate of Nursing Practice. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Her professional memberships include the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), and the American Nurses Association (ANA)
Shawnte’ has worked in healthcare since 2004. She began working in psychiatric healthcare settings in 2010, including inpatient acute care, forensics, residential, and outpatient services. She provides psychiatric services for patients ranging from ages 6-64. She believes in patient-centered care and providing the most therapeutic approach that will best benefit the patient, including medication management, genetic testing, psychotherapy, and education.
Shawnte’ is married with three sons. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, camping, boating on the lake, attending concerts, and watching football.

“Dr. King really took the time to listen. He didn't take my previous diagnosis at face value; he took the time to understand my personal symptoms. He explained the functions of medication and went over side effects. I know that finding the right regimen can take a while, but Dr. King has a game plan for me. I feel confident in him. For the first time in a very long time, I feel hopeful. Thank you Dr. King!”
“It's great to find a medical practitioner that listens to patients. I do not have the expertise or experience that Leah LaRussa has, but I know what I feel like and struggle with. It's nice to work with someone that takes my concerns and walks me through different solutions.”
