Dr. Ellis’ philosophy of patient care is based on establishing a collaborative, therapeutic relationship with the patient that is founded on effective communication and honesty. “I believe the roots of a patient’s current symptoms are often found in the past. In order to access the past you have to develop an honest and trusting therapeutic relationship with the patient in the present moment,” she says. “It is important, as a provider, to employ empathic listening and to involve the patient in decisions regarding their care.”

“There is no sugar-coating it: working with Dr. Kleinman has been difficult. In so many ways a part of me has stubbornly fought, kicking and screaming, against the changes that she—and, on some level, I—knew that I needed to make in order to live a more fulfilling and connected life. This is because the process that I undertook in her care has been, at times, painful. I persisted in seeing her and during those painful bouts, despite feeling a compulsion to quit, and I'm so glad for that. Dr. Kleinman is patient, open-minded, and very intelligent; for these traits she is a tremendous confidant and companion for what is ultimately a self-directed journey. Looking back after nearly two years of working with her, I am astounded by how much better equipped I feel to face my life, both its challenges and rewards, now and into the future. I'm very grateful and couldn't recommend Dr. Kleinman more highly.”
