From the moment I entered the office till I left 5 hours later , I was treated with respect and dignity. Check in was easy. Suggest that one fill out all information on the portal prior to arriving. Saved alot of time. When my fiShow morerst tech came in a got me ready, she asked a lot of questions and I just responded that is all on the portal. She verified all my stuff and realized I had done my due diligence. Shortly afterwards Dr. Gilley came in , told me what he was going to do, I described to him what I thought was going to happen and then he numbed me up and got started. Took sample to pathology and about 30 minutes later came back in to take another sample and go back to pathology. I was escorted to a waiting room for results. As I waited four other patients were called ahead of me and then finally me. The good news was all the cancer was extracted. The bad news it was going to take some time to stitch me up. Escorted to another procedure room and given another four doses of lidocaine. Asked why and the tech /nurse told me that Doctor would have to create flaps and use his scalpel. Waited almost an hour and then the procedure was throughly explained showing me in a mirror what he was going to do. This final tech was excellent as were all the others! We were done in about 30 minutes and during all the procedures I only had one ouch moment. Nurse/tech reviewed all of my tasks for me to do at home and we were done. Dr. Gillen was very helpful in explaining the procedure and even answered my questions during each procedure. Before he stitched me up he showed me where he was going to cut and create the flap to lose the wound. It all went so well , I was totally impressed with the process and outcome. I watched the video as instructed and he told me I was the only one that had watched it . I’m a firm believer that one should be fully informed as to what to expect while having these procedures. I will not have any hesitation to return to this office for any future appointments if necessary. Dr. Gillen and his staff are the best and I wish I could recall all their names. They know who they are. Lindsay and Nick are the only ones I recall. Highly recommend this practice to any on that needs this type of delicate surgery. With best regards, George G.

William Gillen, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and Mohs surgeon practicing at Absolute Dermatology located in Glen Allen and Chesterfield, Virginia. Dr. Gillen's particular areas of expertise include complete skin cancer removal, using the Mohs technique, and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Gillen earned his Bachelor of Science degree, double majoring in biology and French, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia, where he graduated magna cum laude. Dr. Gillen then attended the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Medical College of Virginia, located in Richmond, Virginia, where he earned his medical degree. There he also completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in dermatology, where he served as chief resident in his final year. Then, at the Skin Cancer Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Gillen completed a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and procedural dermatology with Dr. Brett Coldiron.
Dr. Gillen has contributed to several professional publications, and today he stays up to date with the latest developments in dermatology by maintaining his memberships with the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American College of Mohs Surgery.
Prior to joining Absolute Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center, Dr. Gillen served the Richmond area as a Mohs surgeon and dermatologist at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center. He currently serves as a clinical assistant professor for the Department of Dermatology at Virginia Commonwealth University, instructing residents in weekly surgical clinics at the VA and participating in surgical lectures and workshops.

All all around great care from the doctor and staff.
Dr. Gillen is very thorough and explains what he is doing before he does it. He also saw 2 additional spots and was able to remove one of them with the original one. He did a biopsy on the other one and should get the results in a week.

Great from the operator who set up my dates to the office staff and everyone who took care of me during my procedure. And of course doctor himself great bedside manner from all don’t change a thing
Dr. Gillen was very nice. Not overly serious but informative and engaging. He gave me many opportunities to ask questions. He performed the procedure quickly and efficiently but never felt like he was rushing. His nurse was AWESOME! Very kind and helpful.
