Dr. Wael Abdelghani specializes in the surgical and medical management of vitreous, retina, and macula diseases at his practice, The Woodlands Retina Center in The Woodlands, Texas. His devotion to providing the highest quality care to his patients is backed by his commitment to offering state-of-the-art therapies. He has a special interest in sutureless (no stitches) vitrectomy, microsurgical techniques for macular surgery, and the pharmacological treatment of age-related macular degeneration.
Dr. Abdelghani received his medical degree from Alexandria University then went on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at the renowned Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. He then furthered his subspecialty training with a vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
Dr. Abdelghani is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists. His interest in surgical innovations and his enthusiasm for teaching have shaped his career. He has participated in many research studies, most importantly on age-related macular degeneration and ocular complications from HIV.
Prior to establishing The Woodlands Retina Center in 2008, Dr. Abdelghani had a successful career at various institutes. He was an assistant professor of ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, one of the top-ranked medical and research institutes in the United States.
In his private practice, Dr. Abdelghani continues to provide the most dedicated and innovative care to all his patients.

I was looking for a second opinion and something closer to my house so I made an appointment here. The dr was very aggravated and dismissive. Horrible experience.
Dr is very professional and communicates on an understanding method. He gave me another shot in eye, it helped my vision...plus over night the soreness went away. Had a small volcano in my retina...finally was absorbed. There is always a packed office..his nurses expedite their stuff. Bob Gore

Knowledgeable and technically great with eye injections. As a medical doctor ( surgeon), I cringe at eye injections. This is the retina doctor you want treating you.

Doc was great...after plus 2 yrs,my eruption was gone. Doc showed a Pic that compared my retina...it was flat
After having cataract surgery, my vision got worse and may eyes couldn’t figure out why but Dr. Abney discovered I had a stroke and now my vision is getting better with his help
