W. Joseph Absi, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with more than 20 years of experience treating musculoskeletal system conditions with state-of-the-art surgical and nonsurgical therapies. He founded Orthopaedics of Atlanta and Aesthetic Institute to improve joint health and increase the overall well-being of the women, men, and children of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to orthopedic medicine and surgery, Orthopaedics of Atlanta and Aesthetic Institute offers sports medicine, lifestyle and nutritional counseling, and anti-aging treatments that promote a whole-patient, whole-life approach to wellness and optimization.
Dr. Absi graduated with honors with a pre-med degree from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where he was ranked in the top 10% of the graduating class. He completed his residency at the University of Montreal, also in Montreal. He’s a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) and a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Known for his patient-centered approach to medicine, Dr. Absi devotes time and attention to everyone who comes to him for care. He’s passionate about helping professional and amateur athletes recover more quickly and avoid further injury with sports medicine and physical therapy. He also provides trauma services, including fracture fixations.
Patients also seek Dr. Absi's expertise in sports medicine, with his experience performing shoulder and knee arthroscopy and reconstruction, as well as hip, knee, and shoulder replacements damaged by sports injuries or arthritis. I was a little nervous walking into Dr. Absi’s orthopedic office today because I had fallen and injured my shoulder, not knowing if it was serious. I was warmly greeted by his receptionist who was very pleasant and extremely professional. Dr. Absi’s exceptional radiologist took an x-ray of my shoulder and she was also very nice and made me feel at ease. After the X-ray, I had a consultation with Dr. Absi and he took time to examine all of my issues and explained what was going on and how he wanted to treat my injury. I felt even less stressed after he showed me a model of how the shoulder tendons and muscles work. He was patient and very thorough! I am so happy I was referred to him by my primary doctor, Dr. Akbik. The office was clean, well organized, and I felt everyone there was professional and caring! I am confident Dr. Absi’s treatment will help my injury get better and I will definitely tell my friends about my great experience. My only regret is that I wish I had seen him earlier so I would not have been in pain and had more mobility in my shoulder area. I am extremely satisfied with my consultation!! He is the best!! I went in as a precaution for an ankle injury, thankfully everything was fine. I was in and out in an hour, and they scheduled me last minute too. Will definitely be going back if needed.
