I’ve been a patient of Dr. Karas for 2 years. I am being treated for bilateral osteoarthritis & both of my knees are bone on bone. Steroid injections have been helpful until recently, and I finally decided to discuss having knee Show morereplacement surgery. Even though my knees were bad enough to proceed with surgery in 2022, Dr. Karas always told me that I would know when the time was right to proceed. He & his PA, McKenzie, went above & beyond answering all of my many questions. They are both very thorough, knowledgeable, reassuring, & caring…spending more time with me than I expected. I believe Dr. Karas genuinely cares about his patients, & puts their needs/treatment first. He is not your typical surgeon. Not once in the past 2 years did he ever make me feel that surgery was imminent or that I needed to make a surgical decision sooner than later. Would definitely highly recommend Dr. Karas & his team.

A Chicagoland native with the goal of giving back to his community, Dr. Karas earned his medical degree at Rush University’s Medical College in Chicago. He then went to North Carolina to complete his residency training at Duke University Medical Center. After that, he returned to Chicago to finish his fellowship training in hip and knee replacement surgery at Rush University Medical Center.
Dr. Karas’ approach to medicine involves spending time with his patients, fostering good communication, and offering the latest advances in medical technology. He has over 40 peer reviewed publications and is a committee member of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). Through physical therapy, joint injections, and surgical procedures, he strives to get patients back on their feet as quickly as possible without compromising technique. He works closely with patients throughout their road to recovery and is highly skilled in addressing the full spectrum of concerns when it comes to hip or knee joints.

Some wait time, but Dr. Karas, Rose RN, radiology techs and front desk staff were informative, engaged, efficient and friendly.
Had a very good follow up appointment with Dr. Karas. It was a complicated surgery but with Dr. Karas’ experience surgery was an excellent success. His experience with complex surgeries is phenomenal. I would definitely recommend all patients to him who require hip or knee surgery weather complicated or not.
