Dr. Karas is a Rock Star. My left knee replacement was so successful that I forgot that I even had it done. Unfortunately, with all of that confidence, I went out on the tennis court and tore ligaments in my other knee (right) anShow mored various muscles in the lower right leg. (I was still out of shape). Dr. Karas took the time to thoroughly review my MRI, give me advice and options going forward, and refer me to a sports therapy specialist. Thankfully, my right knee joint is intact, but when I do eventually need to have that replaced, I will certainly put my trust in Dr. Karas to have that done.
Dr. Karas is the best. He is very personable and explains the entire process so that you know exactly what to expect all the way through recovery. His support staff is top notch, reflected by their great attitudes. They send daiShow morely text messages for three weeks after surgery to explain what you will experience and what you can expect during recovery. This can be reassuring to know that what you are experiencing is on par with other patients. Top notch from start to finish.
Vasili Karas, MD, MS, is a board certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in rapid recovery hip and knee replacement and complex reconstruction surgery. He committed to empowering his patients to overcome their pain and resume the activities they love.
A Chicagoland native with the goal of giving back to his community, Dr. Karas earned his medical degree at Rush University’s Medical College in Chicago. He then went to North Carolina to complete his residency training at Duke University Medical Center. After that, he returned to Chicago to finish his fellowship training in hip and knee replacement surgery at Rush University Medical Center.
Dr. Karas’ approach to medicine involves spending time with his patients, fostering good communication, and offering the latest advances in medical technology. He has over 40 peer reviewed publications and is a committee member of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS). Through physical therapy, joint injections, and surgical procedures, he strives to get patients back on their feet as quickly as possible without compromising technique. He works closely with patients throughout their road to recovery and is highly skilled in addressing the full spectrum of concerns when it comes to hip or knee joints.

Dr. Karas has an excellent bedside manner. He is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain what factor(s) are causing your pain and how it can be alleviated. His staff is professional and thoroughly explain next steps if surgery is required.
He was prompt, listened to my concerns, explained about post recovery, and answered all my questions. His staff was very personable too.
The first week use rough. But the staff were there when ever I needed them to be. I’m happy that I’m 3 weeks post op, and have no regrets. I would definitely recommend Dr. Karas to everyone:-)!!!

The office staff was very friendly, the doctor was thorough and prompt, and the nurses had all my paperwork printed out for me as to what I have to do when. The only thing is I received my Lincoln park directions I think but it is in Spanish so someone needs to resend that to me in English please
I recently underwent my 4th joint replacement with Dr. Karas. He is an incredibly talented surgeon with a high success rate on perfect implants & outstanding patient recoveries…..I’m living proof! I have recommended family members & friends who’ve had enormous success as well! Dr.Karas truly is a Rock Star among surgeons! What frustrates me tho are the incredible delays a patient experiences while waiting to see Dr. Karas during an appointment. Prepare to wait 2-3 hrs due to over scheduling & staff delays!
