and a doctoral candidate, he also studied neuroscience. At the conclusion of a four-year
postdoctoral position studying inherited eye diseases, he changed careers so he could work with

peer reviewed journal articles on the disease. He graduated from the University of Iowa
Physician Assistant program in the summer of 2013, and has been nationally certified since then.
He most recently recertified in 2018.
Tyson is married to his wonderful wife of 17 years (Traci), and they have three fantastic children
– Nile (age 13); Samantha (age 10); and Tristan (age 8). Aside from church, Tyson spends most
of his time with his family, enjoying anything they can do together as a family. His family
especially enjoys bicycling, hiking, walking, fishing, tennis, basketball, soccer, and visiting
grandma and grandpa. Tyson is an avid outdoorsman and prior competitive athlete – up to one year of semi-professional soccer and 10 years of racing bicycles, breaking into the top 50 ultra-
distance (> 250-508 miles) bicyclists in the world (in the 2004, Furnace Creek 508). As a competitive athlete he raised money for the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Coming from a family with many veterans over many generations, Tyson has a special place in his heart when caring for Veteran’s. Aside from sports -- hiking (especially backpacking), fishing, and snowshoeing are his three most favorite activities.
