Dr. Kane received his medical degree from the University of California, Davis, and then completed four years of general surgery residency training at the University of California in Sacramento, California, and the University of Hawaii.
He stayed at the University of Hawaii to finish a five-year orthopedic surgery residency, before going to the University of Southern California to pursue a fellowship in adult hip and knee reconstruction. He was Hawaii’s first fellowship-trained adult hip and knee surgeon, and he pioneered the introduction of arthroscopic hip surgery in the state.
As a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Kane treats the full scope of orthopedic conditions and sports medicine, including conditions ranging from arthritis to hip, knee, and shoulder injuries. Patients receive nonsurgical treatment and customized rehabilitation, as well as minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, joint preservation surgery, total joint replacements, and revision joint replacement surgery.

Dr. Kane, Jane and Wendy immediately put me at ease. I was apprehensive to find out what was giving me pain. They all were friendly and professional, yet kind and caring. Dr. Kane was like a breath of fresh air. Most doctors are professional but intimidating and lacking warmth. I felt like I knew Dr. Kane for years. It's odd to say, but this was a most enjoyable Doctor's visit.

Dr Kane’s surgical skills and care for his patients is renowned even outside of Hawaii, and every person on his staff is top notch. You will be welcomed warmly when you arrive at Kane Institute at Queens. There’s never a crowd or long when we’re there. There are magazine covers and plaques for awards he has won in the spacious and comfortable waiting room and there’s almost always some kind of seasonal decoration to make it feel even more welcoming. Although famous and top rated, Dr Kane is a relaxed and cordial person who gets to the heart of what each patient needs, explains simply and clearly what’s needed and welcomes any questions we might have. You would be given copies of all that transpired and any recommendations as well, and set up any further visits that are needed. Reminders of visits are always given by phone, text or email and are available on the My Chart Queens portal. Dr Kane and his surgical staff at Queens are incredible. From the grandma in the family who needed knee surgeries to the grandson who was injured in a surf accident, he knows just how to relate to each and make the experience as comfortable and efficient as possible. Top notch surgery sometime can cost more but we’ve saved for that over the years and are willing to pay more for the incredible service and ease we are provided at Kane Institute.
Dr. Kane took as much time as I needed to consult with him re my needed surgery and was very kind and professional. He also encouraged me to take time to think about my options.

Always wonderful. Tom listens. I also forgot to thank Tom for his letter when I was in a dark place a few years ago. My goal is to walk without a cane I need a boot camp type therapist. I also ask for dental antibiotics from Longs 1030 King St

A very knowledgeable doctor with a great personality. His explanation of knee surgery was excellent! I enjoyed my visit and felt confident with making a choice to replace my knee.
Dr Kane explained thoroughly the procedure I needed for my hips. The whole staff very friendly and helpful. I’m very glad I went to him for a second opinion. I’d recommend him to my friends if they need orthopedic care of their hips

Dr Kane is very knowledgeable and attentive, he is not in a hurry to see patients and he explains very well and makes sure patients understand everything and are comfortable .
Dr. Thomas Kane takes plenty of time with patients and listens to them. He works to provide the most minimally invasive option for treatment, no rush to surgical options. Fixed my wife’s shoulder, now working on mine. Recommend him. It’s worth the cost of not messing with Medicare or insurance. Concierge medicine is the way to go.

Seldom do I give out 5 star reviews but this consult appointment deserves it. From the initial phone call reception ..super questions asked on the phone and patient enrollment form promptly sent so it could be filled out before hand, to Dr Kane himself who was thoughtful explained issues with excellent understanding. It was one of the best consults I have experienced. Obviously Dr Kane is totally qualified with experience plus has a positive human aspect to his care. Really a happy camper after this experience.

You know his expertise is the best and that will give you the very best care. After two years of doctors, physical therapists, pain management and other medical professionals kicking the can down the road, I’m finally in the right place.
The doctor and staff are great. I arrived in pain that I have been dealing with for weeks the doctor had everything on site to diagnose me. They provided me the Medication to elevate some of the pain and made all of the arrangements for follow up testing and referrals. I highly recommend this practice.
