Syed Ammar, MD, is an experienced psychiatrist bringing holistic care to NYC Psychiatric Associates in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, New York. Dr. Ammar believes in empowering his patients to recognize their own strengths. He hopes to help patients actively participate in their treatment.
By combining psychopharmacology with mindfulness-based psychotherapy, Dr. Ammar strives for all of his patients to obtain maximal results and improved quality of life.
Dr. Ammar received his medical degree from the Medical University of the Americas in Charlestown, Nevis, of St. Kitts and Nevis. He then completed psychiatry residency training at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, where he served as a chief resident. He also earned a psychiatry chairman’s award for distinguished service.
Dr. Ammar has years of experience working with adolescents and adults of all ages requiring mental health care for depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, ASD, bipolar and psychotic disorders.

Dr. Ammar is an excellent clinician—for me, having made the right diagnosis and getting me on the right medication has been enormously helpful. He’s easy to talk to, explains things well, and is kind.

Truly one of my favorite providers. I lucked out when I found Dr Consiglio by chance through online sources: she's very attentive, listens with so much empathy, and always gives me really helpful opinions and advice on my situation, beyond just prescribing medication. Sometimes she will give me suggestions for lifestyle changes, and potential supplement changes to talk to with my providers. It's clear that she believes that mental health requires holistic solutions and not just medication, and having a doctor like this makes me feel so heard and seen.
Always pleasant and helpful. We zero in on the problem together and figure out a solution. I'm lucky to have found such an awesome Physician! Also, high marks for the support staff. I never have to wait for a response and they communicate very well over the internet. I've always been virtual with this practice so I can't speak for face-to-face visits.
