Soo has really helped me with my relationship with my wife and he has also helped me be a better father to my son. He is a great listener and gives me great advice. If I didn’t do this counseling with him, who knows where my marriShow moreage will be. All I can say is that my bond with my wife has never been this strong and each day I appreciate what I have and love my son even more. We are so proud and appreciate what life has given us. I still have some work to do, but I am in such a better place now because of Soo.
Michael is a patient and insightful listener. One senses he has genuine interest in getting a full understanding of who you are.

Soo Kim?
Soo Kim is a marriage and family therapy intern at Hudson River Care and Counseling (HRCC). Mr. Kim works virtually and in the Teaneck, New Jersey, office. He is completing his Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy in Alliance University. He provides both in-person and telehealth counseling at HRCC.
Soo is deeply passionate about equipping couples and families with clinical counseling skills. Seeing the vast need for counseling for couples and families, especially after the pandemic, Soo is called to meet people where they are and equip them with the perspective and skills to grow in their lives.
Soo is also certified in Prepare/Enrich, a pre-marriage and marriage enrichment counseling program. As a husband himself, Soo knows the importance of establishing a strong base of communication for any marriage. By conducting premarital counseling, Soo recognizes that couples greatly benefit from discussing topics of family history, sex, finances, relationships, and other critical areas that they need to share so that they can know how the other perceives these matters.
He is also an Ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Reformed Church in America, where he serves as a Married Couple’s Pastor in a local church in New Jersey. He also graduated from Western Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity.
Soo recognizes that there may be a need for more access to clinical counseling for various people, and he hopes to make his passion and experience available to people from both religious and non-religious backgrounds.

Michael is an exceptional therapist. I’ve worked with quite a few therapists over the years and I would have to say that therapy with Michael has been a game changer for me. I feel truly understood, and that his perceptiveness has been demonstrated by his analysis and distillation of the core issues I’ve brought into the room. Michael is very supportive and empathic. In just 6 months I feel an easing up of my anxiety and sadness, moving towards a much healthier place. He has a thorough working command of several therapeutic modalities, both in theory and clinical application.
Michael Buckhout is an empathetic and warm presence, with a clear perspective on the work they do with the client. I am often amazed at our time together, where I feel guided towards the complex, nuanced explanations for the concerns I have. Thank you Michael
Soo is very caring and thoughtful. He really engages my son and gives great support and feedback. My son enjoys his sessions with Soo very much.
Finding this practice in general, and specifically working with Michael as my therapist has been transformative. I could not recommend highly enough.
My therapist has made me into a better father and husband. Soo, was able to identify what I needed to work on and was able to spot where I progressed. My life is in such a better place and I believe I have grown as a better person.
Rachel is the most loving and caring person I know. My kids always leaves her office happy and looking forward to her next session.
Michael is warm, engaging, and insightful. I find he is able to tailor our sessions to the particular needs I have each day. Best therapist experience of my life!
This is my first time in therapy and my experience has been exceptional.
Erin Heaslip helped me a great deal, and I’ve improved since seeing her. I am however still trying to work out a billing issue with my visits
Erin is the first therapist I have had any experience with. She was a good fit, as we had a similar background. She was empathetic and gentle with her suggestions for dealing with my issues. She was also very good at encouraging and allowing me to talk. She seemed to remember everything I said and was able to find connections. My only complaint would be that I would have liked a therapist closer to my age. My being 30 years older than Erin meant that she had not experienced many of the life challenges I have experienced.
I’m very satisfied with Michael’s treatment plan, his efforts to understand my concerns, he is great listener but also goes well beyond validation into effective therapy and the establishment of a solid therapeutic alliance.
Soo was fantastic at explaining couples counseling - what it is, what it is not, the process, confidentiality, fit between client and counselor, etc. He was great at asking foundational question to better understand me and my partner, our reason for coming to couples counseling, and asking what our goals were for our couples counseling.
Soo has been a huge part of my year, and I'm so grateful to share my experiences with someone so attentive and insightful. This is nothing to do with Soo and just me feeling like I went too often out of obligation. He's very understanding and supportive. He tells me what I need to hear, and gives me the confidence to say those things back to myself for encouragement. The growth has been palpable, and I think people around me are appreciative of the honesty that Soo always preached. Our time together was precious for me and I am certain he will only reach higher highs as a counselor. His other clients will be so lucky to have him!
Mr. Kim strives to bring the best out in each individual to build a stronger connection in the relationship.
Excellent experience. I found you to be very friendly and I was completely at ease speaking with you. Looking forward to future sessions!
challenging and attentive
Ally allows me to open up without pushing. She takes her time and when she sees that things are getting a little to heavy in the session she changes the subject to something she knows I enjoy to allow me to take a much needed moment to regain myself.
Mixed impressions: I liked Michael and felt that therapy with him could work out, although one never knows after only one session. I was disappointed with the physical space. Therapy room felt cramped- I’d prefer a bit more comfortable distance between the therapist and me. The waiting room felt very untidy, even dirty, and I would not feel happy sitting there.
Helped a lot.
Soo is very fair and understanding. His counseling has helped my marriage become stronger and positive.
Rachel is amazing and very loving.
Wonderful therapist very patient and always a pleasure to go to sessions
Rachel is patient, kind, and considerate when dealing with our daughter. She helps her to come up with the best ways to deal with her anxiety and how to navigate the world as a teenager.
