Santosh C. Patel, MD, is a board-certified retinal ophthalmologist on the team of dedicated providers at Retina Specialists. He currently sees patients at the practice’s Plano, DeSoto, and Waxahachie, Texas, locations.
Dr. Patel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He went on to earn his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, gaining membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
He completed his internship at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California, and the University of California, Los Angeles, and did his residency at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Dr. Patel joined Retina Specialists in 2006, where he specializes in treating a variety of vitreoretinal disease, including macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments, and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Patel hails from Southern California but loves calling Texas home. When he’s not working, he enjoys traveling internationally, taking photographs, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, and spending time with his wife and two children.

I have been his patient for more than two years and have never had a bad experience with his service.
If you have an issue with your retina, this is the practice you want! I had my retina detach in one eye on a Saturday. My regular eye doctor came in, made the evaluation and recommended this practice as quickly as I could get it. That turned out to be about an hour later. Dr. Lieu met me in the office and did an emergency procedure to stabilize the retina. On Thursday Dr. Patel did surgery to reattach my retina. On my end the surgery was a breeze - I slept! Now, two months later, my vision is great. Everyone I met at this practice treated me professionally and friendly. My vision was their number one priority. I highly recommend them for retina problems. CR

Very pleasant, but it would be more pleasant if there would be a cure for macular degeneration.

Making an appointment is very easy. The staff are all very polite and caring. Dr Patel is very nurturing himself, states clearly his findings and recommendations. I sincerely find it a joy to have my yearly check up and generally walk away feeling uplifted by this experience.

Dr. Patel is very professional with a very kind personality. He’s a quiet man but show concern about your own concerns. His whole staff was genuinely friendly and very professional and answered all my questions. I have recommended him to a friend and will continue to keep recommending him to people that need a retina specialist.
The office is managed professionally. The technicians are busy bees, but they do take the time to help you through the process, answer questions all with a smile. Dr. Patel is friendly and knows his practice from the inside out. Would recommend him.
