About Rebecca Kangwa, MA

Rebecca earned her Master’s in Mental Health and Wellness Counseling with a dual degree in LGBTQ Studies at New York University. Rebecca received her Bachelor’s in Psychology at Florida State University and has worked at numerous organizations that specialize in crisis management, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, trauma, and family dynamics.

She operates from a holistic approach and focuses on creating a custom experience to each individual client. Rebecca believes that building a strong, mutually beneficial, therapeutic relationship is one of the most important aspects of therapy. Working together and growing collaboratively is how Rebecca chooses to engage in sessions. She uses her skills in empathy, cultural competency, and listening to understand the client and work with them to create a more healthy, balanced life.

She has a strong interest in applying an integrative approach using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, and psychodynamic techniques. She guides her sessions with a person-centered structure and considers everyone the author to their story.

She is determined to provide supportive, appropriate care for her clients. Rebecca is a strong advocate for destigmatizing mental health and welcomes people from all walks of life. Rebecca prides herself in creating a safe, non-judgmental, and liberating space for all of her clients.
