Dr. Scanlon is a native of Jackson and completed his undergraduate studies at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi. While attending Ole Miss, he spent a summer working in the operating room at Lakeland Surgical Group, where he developed an interest in surgery and meaningful, lasting relationships with some of the surgeons.
After attending Ole Miss, Dr. Scanlon went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1994. He then completed his surgical residency at the Carraway Methodist Medical Center, Birmingham, Alabama, in 1999.
One of the things that Dr. Scanlon finds particularly rewarding is when primary care physicians instill their trust in Lakeland Surgical Clinic, PLLC, and refer their patients to them for surgery.

Dr Scanlon was the best person as well as surgeon. He is great at communicating for the patient to understanding medical information. I had two Lumpectomy surgeries because of two different occurrences of non-invasive cancers. I had a couple medical personal to recommend after my second Lumpectomy to have a mastectomy without any tests for support that decision. I went to Dr. Scanlon and he was more cautious and order MRI before bringing out the knives. I appreciated him getting a test to give me more information to make my decision to have a mastectomy. The MRI did show in the left breast another concerning area for cancer, which help me make the best decision for me.
Kinda surprised he didnt even know i had cancer, Ask me did the doctor say i had cancer, He had to look it up very concerning,
I did not have to wait long to see the doctor. He examined me and explained it, He said to come back in a year.
Dr. Scanlon always takes time to listen to your concerns, and consider the best treatment plan that will benefit you the most. He has helped me over the years, in more than one situation regarding my health to achieve healing. I am returning for additional help because I trust him to provide the best care.
Dr. Scanlon is very personable. He is thorough and genuinely cares. He takes time to listen and then examines you. He explains his diagnosis clearly and makes sure you understand the plan of action before he leaves.
It’s hard to be objective when someone likely saved your life. But, Dr. Scanlon skillfully performed the cancer surgery that did just that. Additionally, he continues to follow me competently and compassionately. He’s a great doctor!
