Patrick H. Coffey, DO, is an experienced vascular surgeon and osteopathic physician with the team at Vascular Specialists located in Tinley Park, Illinois. Dr. Coffey takes a holistic approach to patient care and helps patients heal with traditional medications and interventional procedures along with exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle.
Dr. Coffey received his undergraduate education at the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and his medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Erie, Pennsylvania. After medical school, he completed his internship at Flushing Hospital Medical Center, in Flushing, New York, where he remained for his residency. To further his training, Dr. Coffey completed a vascular and endovascular fellowship at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, New Jersey.
As far back as he can remember, Dr. Coffey saw medicine as a good way to help people and to use his potential to the fullest. Through his medical and surgical training, and in learning more about the vascular system, Dr. Coffey was drawn to the straightforwardness and elegant simplicity of the veins and arteries, and how treating the diseases of the vascular system brings such an improvement to patients’ quality of life.
Patient education is a very important part of Dr. Coffey’s care, so he does his best to speak in plain language that is easily understandable. He believes that when patients have a clear understanding of their illness or disease, the treatment options available, and the things they can do to improve their recovery, they optimize what they can control and achieve even better results.
In addition to his formal medical training, Dr. Coffey is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery in general surgery and the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. He is also certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Dr. Coffey is an engaging and informative speaker, educating peers about amputation prevention, vascular conditions and disease, wound care, and the latest minimally invasive techniques.
