Dr. Rao is a Cleveland, OH native, and specializes in both conservative and surgical treatment of the foot and ankle, with specialty interests in minimally invasive surgical techniques, sports injuries, and fracture care, reconstructive surgery, advanced arthroscopic techniques, cartilage restoration/repair, regenerative medicine and injection therapy, deformity correction, bunion correction, and arthritis. He attended Miami University (Ohio) for his undergraduate studies, where he received a bachelors degree in psychology/neuroscience. He then pursued his masters degree, followed by simultaneous doctoral degrees from Kent State University, completing his DPM as well as a PhD, in exercise physiology. During this time, Dr. Rao served as student body president and president of the Pi Delta National Honor Society, and graduated both degrees Summa Cum Laude. He then completed a three-year Podiatric Surgical Residency at the Highlands Presbyterian/ St. Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, where he served as Chief Resident during his final year. This was followed by an additional one-year fellowship in advanced foot/ankle reconstruction, sports injuries and trauma at the prestigious Silicon Valley Reconstructive Foot and Ankle Fellowship with Sutter Health-Palo Alto Medical Foundation in Mountain View, California.
Dr. Rao is passionate about healing his patients, and believes in the constant pursuit of excellence. He has authored several publications in both scientific journals and textbooks. He is the recipient of several awards and distinctions, serves on the board of directors for The Podiatry Foundation, and speaks regularly at local, state and national meetings and conferences. He is board certified by both the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Rao recently moved to Austin with his wife and son and is preparing for the arrival of their new baby girl. My first meeting with Dr. Rao was great! He gave me almost an hour, listened to and absorbed the history of my condition, confirmed what my other MDs have been saying, and suggested a viable 3-step approach to eventual improvement. Tonya wears two hats - receptionist and medical assistant - and was also very kind, competent and totally professional. Both of them were personable and really friendly! Treatment hasn't started yet - stay tuned for further developments!

Five stars across the board. I was so happy you were able to see me on such short notice and as far as first impressions go, Tanya was absolutely wonderful. No better person to be the first face, and voice, that a patient gets to interact with. The stellar experience continued with Stacey who made me feel so comfortable, she was exceptionally knowledgeable/experienced and so efficient taking me through preliminary questions, x-rays, foot scans, etc. Dr. Rao was the ultimate cherry on top - loved his level of confidence and general demeanor. He asked questions and it really felt like he was listening - trying to understand the issue and find the right course of care that would achieve fixing the problem rather than long-term (maybe lifelong?) pain management. The latter solution seems all too common in medicine today, so Dr. Rao's approach is refreshing, hopeful and a HUGE relief to me. I really cannot say enough good things about my visit today. Many thanks to the whole team. I appreciate you all.

Easy appointment request system. Was able to get in first thing the next morning, staff was very helpful and open about ingrown removal procedure. Prescribed an antibiotic and scheduled a follow up in 2 weeks, no hassle at all. So appreciative of how quick this experience was.
