Meet Dr. Ashford
Melvin Ashford, MD, is an expert urogynecologist helping patients at his practice in Maplewood, Minnesota. Dr. Ashford has dedicated his surgical career to the evaluation and treatment of women with vaginal and pelvic disorders or concerns. He is one of the first physicians in the nation to be board certified in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (now known as urogynecology). He has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and other complex pelvic floor conditions. His goal is restoring pelvic organs to their normal, symptomless state both functionally and anatomically.
Dr. Ashford earned his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in 1997. He completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and his fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He rounded out his medical training at St. Peter's University Health Center for Women, where he received formal training on the surgical and medical management of women with pelvic floor disorders and urinary incontinence.
Following his training, Dr. Ashford worked at Healtheast Care System, Aspen Medical Group, and Minnesota Women's Care, where he was named the executive and medical director.
Dr. Ashford continuously monitors advancements in the field and has traveled the world to learn and perfect his skill sets to better address the needs of his patients. Over the past eight years, he was worked with doctors in Italy, Austria, London, Scotland, and the U.S. His training in female pelvic reconstructive surgery, OBGYN, and cosmetic gynecology combined with a keen aesthetic eye result in raving accolades from his patients. He has been named a "Top Doctor" by MPLS/St. Paul Magazine every year since 2014.

Excellent care
I liked Dr Ashford. I had a Cystoscopy. It’s a procedure where a small, thin scope is inserted into the Urethra. It was very painful. I thought they could have used a numbing agent prior to the procedure. Also, he was trying to collect a urine sample during this procedure but his nurse had me use the bathroom before they started so there was not enough urine left to collect a proper sample. So now I have to go back on a different day and leave a sample. Which is just inconvenient for me and annoying. But other than those two minor issues, everyone was very friendly, as I said , I liked Dr Ashford and would recommend MN WOMENS CARE clinic to others.

Dr Ashford is the best provider that I've had. I have complex issues outside of gynecology that effect my body negatively and he takes everything into consideration and how it can effect your pelvic floor. He has saved me years of pain by figuring out what my root problems are and not just bandaging my symptoms. I really can't thank him and MN Women's Care enough! I have been a long time client due to my pelvic floor issues and they are always looking for new ways to optimize my treatment where possible. I highly recommend Dr Ashford. He will actually listen to you and help you improve your condition whatever it may be.
