Mary South, MD, MHA, is a dedicated urogynecologist at Northeast Ohio Urogynecology in Akron, Ohio. As a native of northeastern Ohio, Dr. South is passionate about treating and caring for the local women in the community.
Dr. South began her studies at The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, before pursuing her medical degree at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, she achieved her master’s degree in health administration from the University of Cincinnati.
After graduation, she went on to complete a four-year residency program in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. While in residency, Dr. South was named chief resident as well as being the recipient of the 2004 Robert A. Ross Research Award.
A passionate learner, Dr. South also took part in a fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. During her fellowship and over the years, she has published various peer-reviewed journal articles, contributed chapters to several books, and presented award-winning educational videos on surgical techniques at national medical conferences.
Her professional experiences include serving as the division director for female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery division at the University of Cincinnati, as well as being a co-fellowship director there.
When she’s not helping patients with their women’s health concerns, Dr. South enjoys spending quality time with her husband and their three children, hiking in the metro parks and biking.

Dr South is the best doctor. i had a hysterectomy at 80yrs old. I was really worried about having the surgery but it turned out it was so easy. Went home the same day and have felt great ever since. Very little pain too. Thanks again Dr South.

I felt very comfortable and really liked Dr. South. She explained what could be the problem(s) and what the process will be to find out what needs to be done. The office staff was friendly.
I went in to discuss a procedure, and I didn’t feel like I was rushed, or had to be in any hurry to leave the room. She took her time and answered all the questions that I had.

I didn't have to wait very long to get in to see Dr. South. The assistant explained clearly what I needed to do before seeing the doctor. The doctor came in within about 5-6 minutes later. She was very pleasant with me and questioned me in detail about my symptom, then did her exam very professionally. She then referred me to see a specialist. And then I was on my way. I was very pleased with the whole appointment.
I was taken promptly; the doctor came in in less than 5 minutes; she was concerned and attentive; I was back in my car in 30 minutes. Doesn’t get any better than that!
