Mary is an excellent listener, helps me feel affirmed and validated as a worthwhile human being, without any air of condescension as though she has all the answers to help this "poor unfortunate soul" (expression borrowed from The Little Mermaid movie, satirically so, regarding how a more 'distant, superior' professional may view their patients/clients). Mary feels like she is right there with you, really understanding how you feel. This feels good and is therapeutic for me - like a friend.
