About Mr. Lee Mauney, MS LPC

Lee’s home is in Memphis Tennessee. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Gonzaga University in Spokane Washington. His Gonzaga legacy is being the first “Spike” the bulldog mascot. Lee earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Mississippi State University. Lee is a Licensed Professional Counselor/Mental Health Serve Provider (LPC-MHSP) in both Tennessee and Arkansas. Lee has over 30 years of experience with adults, adolescents, and children in a diverse range of settings including hospital settings, outpatient clinics, and academic settings. He has also offered therapy in a private practice for many years. Lee has worked with a multicultural population both in rural areas, the inner city, and with the Choctaw Nation in Philadelphia Mississippi. Lee passionately believes in holistic therapy in which his goal is to “put himself out of a job.” He believes therapy should empower the client to find their inner healer.

Good matchup with a therapist, on the first attempt. I’m pretty sure everything’s very well coordinated behind the scenes at Athena; I wouldn’t have it any different, since I am looking for a diagnosis, after all. This excellent matchup with Lee is a testament, to that. This was my first teletherapy; I didn’t like the idea of not being in person, so shortly after Covid, I had stopped my previous counseling. I don’t know why I put this off, so long!

Lee has been incredibly supportive and attentive. He allows me to feel my way through my personal situation and set my own goals, he listens and recommends without being pushy, is supportive and informative without being condescending. It is a relationship I hope to build on as I trust what he says because he comes across as incredibly open and responsive and I actually feel heard. This to me is incredibly important, I don’t want or need to be talked over… I need to be helped, Lee does this.
