Got questions for
Dr. Laramie Wheeler, DO?
Laramie Wheeler is a native of Idaho Falls, ID and has always had a passion for the healing arts. She remembers being fascinated as a young girl with the machinery of the human body, amazed at how different organ systems carried out different functions and that they all worked together to keep people alive and healthy. In her early teens she started independently researching and studying the different modalities of healing used worldwide (homeopathy, acupuncture, etc), and by high school she was pretty sure she wanted to pursue a path in medicine.
She graduated valedictorian from Hillcrest High school and went on to attend Ricks College on academic and journalism scholarships. After Ricks College she attended Brigham Young University on academic scholarship and graduated with a B.S. in zoology and a minor in chemistry. After BYU she attended Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. After medical school she completed residency at Idaho State University. During her years of residency she was fortunate to be introduced to French physician Jean Claude Lapraz, founder of Endobiogeny, a holistic approach to medicine primarily focused on attaining balance of the nervous and hormonal systems using a plant-based, natural therapies. Little did she know that her introduction to Dr. Lapraz would change the course of her entire medical career.
After graduation from residency in 2008 she joined Blackfoot Medical Center where she practiced traditional family medicine, including inpatient hospital work and obstetrics. During those early years she also worked a few times a month at the Endobiogenic Integrative Medical Center in Pocatello where she was personally instructed in the holistic healing arts by Dr. Lapraz M.D., Annette Davis C.N., and Jean Bokelmann M.D. These instructors helped her understand the amazing healing properties of plants and introduced her to the ways of incorporating these into her medical practice. From these mentors she gained a foundation in the use of herbs, tinctures, glycerin macerates, essential oils, and other holistic therapies. She also gained a more solid understanding of the vital role that diet, stress, and lifestyle have in overall metabolism and health.
These early years were very instructive for her. After having a foot in both the Eastern and Western medical worlds for a couple of years, she felt very encouraged by the results she was seeing through Endobiogeny, particularly with chronic illnesses, and decided it was time to pursue this more fully. Although she loved her partners and patients at Blackfoot Medical Center, she felt strongly like she was supposed to go a different direction and focus on the more challenging illnesses that didn’t seem to respond to conventional therapies. These included chronic fatigue, autoimmune disorders, chronic infections, and fibromyalgia just to name a few. She eventually went on her own to pursue a more integrative path to healing. She went on to found Wholesome Health and has continued to broaden her healing horizons. She has loved her journey of learning and continues to add to her knowledge on a continual basis. She is grateful to practice medicine in a time when more is being understood about the root causes of illness than ever before.
In 2014 she completed a fellowship through the American Society of Endobiogenic Medicine and Integrative Physiology. Through the tutelage of Dr. Kamyar Hedayat she deepened her understanding of the root causes of illness as well as the healing power of plants. In 2016 she was honored to be among the guest speakers at the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy.
After her Endobiogeny fellowship she gained training in different IV modalities such as nutritional and chelation therapies. She has also trained in ozone therapies such as prolozone and major autohemotherapy. She is very happy with the results she sees through these and hopes that in time she can do her part in educating the public about these powerful modes in restoring health. They have proven to be invaluable in improving energy, decreasing inflammation, and treating tough autoimmune and degenerative conditions.
For the past two years she has been working towards certification through the Institute of Functional Medicine and American Academy for Anti-Aging Medicine and hopes to take her final examinations in those later this year.
Several years ago she developed a new passion for the development and treatment of cancer, and in 2017 she completed an Integrative Cancer Therapeutics fellowship. She is saddened to see the alarming number of beloved patients, friends, and family who have fallen prey to this vicious epidemic and is determined to be among those on the forefront of integrative cancer treatments. She believes that the only successful approach to cancer is the “all hands on deck” approach, addressing physical, spiritual, and emotional health. She currently sees patients a few days a month at the Cancer Center for Healing in Irvine, California with Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy.
She is excited to continue building a business focused on helping patients achieve their optimum vitality. She is grateful to be surrounded by a team of hard-working, compassionate, and competent individuals who are equally determined to guide others along the pathway to healing.
