    About Julia Mathew, PMHNP-BC

    Julia Mathew is a compassionate and board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with over 25 years of diverse nursing experience. Throughout her career, she has worked across a variety of healthcare settings, including psychiatric emergency departments, observation units, inpatient psychiatric units, and intensive care units, providing care to individuals of all ages. After completing her Nurse Practitioner program, Julia gained valuable experience in an integrated outpatient clinic, where she consulted on a wide range of mental health conditions. Her expertise includes working with patients diagnosed with anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Julia also has significant experience managing substance use disorders, including operating a Suboxone clinic for patients with opioid and alcohol use disorders. Currently, she practices at Duke Regional Hospital’s outpatient services, combining her clinical expertise with a commitment to delivering holistic, patient-centered care.

    Julia earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and completed her Nurse Practitioner program at Walden University, following her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the United Kingdom. Since graduating as a Nurse Practitioner, she has been dedicated to advancing mental health care and improving the lives of her patients. Julia is passionate about making a meaningful impact in psychiatric-mental health nursing and continuously seeks opportunities to expand her knowledge and enhance her professional skills.

    Julia’s professional interests include integrated behavioral health, where mental health care is seamlessly combined with primary care to improve patient outcomes. Julia also has a strong interest in mood and anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and schizoaffective disorders, utilizing evidence-based and innovative therapies that empower her patients to achieve stability and improve their quality of life. Additionally, she finds fulfillment in mentoring the next generation of nurses and nurse practitioners, serving as a preceptor for undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

    Beyond her professional commitments, Julia enjoys music, reading, and spending quality time with her family. She is actively involved in her church community, fostering connections, and supporting those in need. Julia believes in lifelong learning and growth, both personally and professionally, to better serve her patients and her community.
