Joy Ellis-George, APRN, PMHNP-BC, CCM, a skilled and compassionate board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, welcomes new and returning clients to Dare To Care Too in Largo, Maryland.
Joy offers in-person and telehealth appointments, helping individuals of all ages overcome mental health disorders and life challenges. She carefully listens to each person’s story, performs psychiatric evaluations, provides counseling and medication management, and serves as a true client advocate.
After attending the Medical Technical Institute in Alexandria, Virginia, and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse, Joy graduated with a bachelor’s in nursing from Trinity Washington University in Washington, DC. She continued her education at Walden University in Baltimore, Maryland, where she received a master’s in psychiatric mental health nursing.
Joy’s extensive nursing experience includes providing exceptional care to clients and numerous supervisory positions, including being a visiting nurse, charge nurse in multiple settings, clinic nurse, quality assurance director, director of clinical services, and director of nursing.
After becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Joy worked as a complex care and crisis management nurse at the McClendon Center and an adjunct professor at Trinity Washington University, both in Washington, DC.
In addition to being the co-founder, director, and a psychiatric practitioner at her private practice, Dare To Care Too, Joy is a psychiatric nurse practitioner at Jordan House, a psychiatric crisis center in Washington, DC.
Joy is certified in chronic care management (CCM) by the National Academy of Certified Care Managers (NACCM) and received her PMHNP board certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She’s an active member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, the Advanced Practice Registered Nurses Association, and the National Leadership Society.
