After attending medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria, he completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Penn State Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, with an elective rotation in Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery at Evanston Hospital and Northwestern University. He was chairman of the obstetrics and gynecology department at Community Hospital of Ottawa before returning to Peoria.
