About Henry Gates, OD

Dr. Henry Gates is an experienced optometrist and United States Army Captain who brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to Wolchok Eye Associates. He specializes in comprehensive primary eye care, with advanced expertise in fitting scleral rigid gas permeable lenses for corneal ectasia and ocular surface disease. Dr. Gates has led multidisciplinary teams in high-volume clinical settings, providing exceptional care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

Dr. Gates earned his Doctor of Optometry from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University at Albany. His academic achievements reflect his dedication to excellence in both education and patient care.

During his military service, Dr. Gates held leadership roles at United States Army Health Clinics in Germany and South Carolina. He provided vision conservation services, managed specialty contact lens services, and delivered pre- and post-operative care for refractive surgery patients. He also developed eastern Germany’s only specialty contact lens service and provided eye care focused on traumatic brain injury recovery.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Gates enjoys skiing, exercise, cooking, and travel. His commitment to personalized care and innovative vision solutions makes him a valuable addition to the Wolchok Eye team.
