Dr. Erick Mafong is a leading provider of dermatological services at the Dermatology and Laser Center. Dr. Mafong serves patients throughout San Diego, Hillcrest, and Chula Vista, California. Dr. Mafong’s areas of expertise include Mohs micrographic surgery, Dermatologic, Laser, and Cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Mafong is a Board Certified dermatologist. A native of San Diego, he received his medical degree from the University of California-San Diego and attended college at the University of California-Los Angeles. Dr. Mafong completed his residency at the New York University’s Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. He completed fellowship training in Laser Surgery and Mohs micrographic surgery at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York.
Dr. Mafong is presently the Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology/Medicine at the University of California-San Diego’s School of Medicine and a staff physician at the Veterans Administration Hospital of San Diego. He retains a busy academic and professional schedule teaching and has authored several medical articles, lectures, and book chapters.
He enjoys speaking at both local and national conferences in addition to actively participating in laser and dermatologic research.
Dr. Mafong is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology, and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. Dr. Mafong is also fluent in Spanish.

Husband and I both like Dr. my Fung as a provider. I wish the doctors did not have to rush through appointments so quickly, nonetheless he's a good doctor and we'd like him.
Front desk girl could be a little more friendly but she was professional enough... other than that the PA Amy was outstanding. My procedure was so quick and easy and she was super friendly... and the MA that brought me back was super friendly as well... I will definitely return to this clinic

I was very impressed with this practice during my first appointment. Check in went smoothly and the staff was helpful and friendly. Dr. Mafong's thorough exam and bedside manner put me at ease. I like this practice very much, but it does seem to be over-scheduled. Appointments were booked pretty far out online. I waited about 25 minutes in the waiting room, and about 15 minutes for Dr. Mafong to return after his assistant did the prep work for a biopsy.
Dr. Mafong is thorough and explains his processes and procedures well.
Wow. A doctor who actually spends time with you?!? Dr. Mafong was great! I appreciated how he talked me through my options and addressed the issues at hand. Great visit. Excellent bedside manner. He wasn’t rushing out the door ahead of me like other docs do.
