Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Dr. Gottenger began his medical training in his native country, earning his medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela, before relocating to the United States. Dr. Gottenger did both his internship and residency through the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in Manhattan, New York.
To enhance his skillset, Dr. Gottenger completed a combined fellowship in urologic oncology and laparoscopy from the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) Medical Center in West Palm Beach and the University of Miami School of Medicine. After his fellowship, Dr. Gottenger remained on staff at the VA and started a urologic laparoscopic program where he performed some of the first laparoscopic nephrectomies, nephroureterectomies, and prostatectomies in Palm Beach County.
Dr. Gottenger is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is board certified through the American Board of Urology. By also maintaining professional memberships with the American Association of Clinical Urologists, the American Urological Association, and the Florida Urological Society, Dr. Gottenger continues to stay on top of advancements in the field of urology. He currently serves as the chairman of surgery at Delray Medical Center.
While he’s known for specializing in comprehensive care and minimally invasive urologic surgery for the treatment of kidney stones and benign prostatic hyperplasia, Dr. Gottenger also helps patients struggling with impotence, infertility, cancer, or chronic bladder issues. He was one of the first physicians in South Florida to perform transurethral laser vaporization of the prostate using the cutting-edge GreenLight™ Laser. He also performs in-office procedures such as Rezũm and UroLiftⓇ for treatment of enlarged prostates.
His fluency in English, Spanish, Hebrew, and German allows Dr. Gottenger to communicate efficiently with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds.
