He is triple board-certified in pain medicine (ABPMR), internal medicine, and hospice & palliative care (ABIM). He also holds an academic appointment as an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida, College of Medicine in Orlando, Florida.
Dr. Soto earned his Bachelor of Science and Medical Degree at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. As he was finishing his studies at the School of Medicine, his primary focus was oncology. It was not until he began his residency at Mount Auburn Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, that he became intrigued by the field of pain management. He was attracted to this area of medicine because of the ability it afforded him to develop long-term relationships with patients suffering from chronic conditions while providing interventional treatments to improve their functionality and quality of life.
He went on to complete two fellowships, hospice & palliative care and interventional pain management at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, and Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City. Dr. Soto also completed a research fellowship in pain medicine neuromodulation and became an attending physician at the latter institution. He held the title of Assistant Professor of the Departments of Medicine and Anesthesiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York.
With over a decade of experience in the pain management field, Dr. Soto is an expert in basic and advanced interventional pain management techniques, including intrathecal drug delivery systems, spinal cord stimulation, peripheral nerve stimulation, lumbar decompression, vertebral augmentation techniques, endoscopic rhizotomy, ultrasound-guided interventions, and regenerative medicine procedures, among others. Dr. Soto also provides expert assessment and treatment to patients internationally and is an active member of several pain societies. His clinical interests include the management of chronic pain conditions such as headache, neuropathic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, spinal stenosis, post-laminectomy syndrome as well as refractory cancer, and abdominal and pelvic pain.
His research interests have included the use of non-invasive central neuromodulation systems in the treatment of atypical facial and malignant pain. Dr. Soto is extremely enthusiastic about the innovations in the pain management field that have been occurring for the past decade. Currently, he is able to offer treatment options that are individualized based on pain types, patterns, and pathologies.
Though working in the pain management field can be challenging, Dr. Soto finds the work extremely rewarding. Preferring a multidisciplinary approach, he strives to maintain an open dialogue with each patient and provide viable options of care. The results mean patients can make better-informed decisions about their treatment plans. Through collaborative efforts with Interventional Spine and Pain Institute, Dr Soto is able to continue to provide the highest level of care and interventional pain management to his patients.
