Demetrios Louis, MD, DABA, DABAPM, is a skilled pain management specialist at Innovative Pain Specialists in Arlington Heights and Libertyville, Illinois.
Dr. Louis is a lifelong Chicagoan who grew up on the North Shore of Chicago. He attended both Cornell University and Michigan State University, ultimately receiving an undergraduate degree in Physiology. Following graduation, he returned home to pursue advanced studies in Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Illinois. Thereupon, he received his medical degree at St. Matthew's University, where he graduated top of his class. After completing medical school, Dr. Louis returned back to Chicago and started his internship in General Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. At Rush, he was also involved in extensive research in General Surgery and Pain Medicine, helping create protocols for fast-tracking surgical patients in the postoperative period. Dr. Louis then completed a residency in Anesthesiology at Rush University Medical Center.
Subsequently, he left Chicago for Boston in order to complete a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard University, one of the world's most prestigious pain medicine programs. Upon completing his fellowship, he spent one year in Boston at a teaching affiliate of Tufts University, where he practiced Interventional Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. His ambition to provide comprehensive and quality care for his community motivated Dr. Louis to return back home to Chicago to start a practice in Interventional Pain Medicine with his friend and colleague Dr. Paul Marsiglia at Innovative Pain Specialists. Dr. Louis has considerable interest in all pain disorders converging and implementing the latest interventions and techniques to help treat patients with both acute and chronic pain. In addition, he serves on the medical staff of Northwest Community Hospital, where he is actively involved in treating patients with pain. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.
Outside of work, Dr. Louis likes to spend his time watching Chicago sports, playing sports, traveling, cartography, and being with his family.

I love seeing Dr. Louis. I have seen him for several years. I actually enjoy going to see him. He listens to what you have to say & what your needs are. He doesn't like putting you on a lot of medicine. However, what you need & what is working is what he will make sure you have.

Dr. Demetrius Louis is pretty awesome. He cares about his patients enough to look outside the box and research other alternatives to get us pain free without always having to take medicines. I'm a terrible TMJ case, have been for years. He gave me meds, but also gave me trigger point injections which, even after the first one, have helped greatly. He's a nice, caring guy, and so are all the nurses. I'm very happy and relieved I finally found a Dr that understands and is helping so much more than others at just the 2nd visit. Thanks!

I was completely dissappointed in Dr. Louis. I came in with multiple pain issues as well as issues that complicate things a bit. Dr. Louis didn't ask me about the tremors I experience and was not concerned with my wellbeing. Dr. Lewis seemed really uptight and looked as if he just could not stay in that room with me another second. He concentrated on typing on the computer rather than concentrating on his patient. He didn't care about my shoulder which has bothered me for years, nor my foot which was hurt at the same time, nor my history with pain. He asked me about my sciatica, but did nothing for it. I have had pain issues for the last 20 years, as a matter of fact I am writing this at 4am because my back hurts and I couldn't sleep. I have had 0 quality of life for 20+ years and it looks like it'll be longer. He offered NO PAIN RELIEF at all, no Opioids, no Naproxin/Ibuprofen, no Gabapentin (which is a nerve pain/anti-convulsant med that I actually need), not even a Flintstones chewable. He gave me muscle relaxers that did nothing to relieve my pain AND wants me to go to physical therapy while in pain so I can hurt more. If I went to physical Therapy with nothing but muscle relaxers I wouldn't be able to walk for weeks. Pain relief is all about quality of life. Dr. Louis wasn't very concerned with my quality of life. He should become a mechanic so he doesn't have to talk to whatever he's working on.

Dr. Louis is attentive and pays attention to your problems. He asks you opinions and listens to concerns about your treatment. He makes suggestions about the treatment and lets you make the decisions. I think very highly about his treatments.

I was able to get an appointment scheduled very quickly. Dr. Louis was very thorough and spent quite a while asking me about my issue and examining the MRI images. We were able to schedule treatment for the next day. Overall great experience for me.
Dr. Louis very knowledgeable and listens to my concerns, questions, etc. He really seems to want his patients to be free of pain and has several courses of action he can take if one procedure and/or med isn't as effective as we both had hoped.

Dr Louis is awesome
I appreciate the research and willingness to find answers to my pain, weakness and numbness. Other Dr's seem to like using ms as an answer to most of my problems. I understand my MS acts up but there are other reasons sometimes along with that. I highly recommend Dr Louis for your first choice. He figured mine out.
