Ashish Shah, MD, is a skilled gastroenterologist and hepatologist. He brings his vast experience to the team at Wake Endoscopy, serving patients throughout Raleigh, Cary, Clayton, Fuquay Varina, North Carolina.
Dr. Shah graduated from Cornell University.
He received his medical degree from Upstate Medical University - Syracuse, New York, where he met his physician-wife.
He attended Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for a residency in Internal Medicine and a Fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Subsequently, Dr. Shah owned and ran a private gastroenterology practice for over a decade. He also served as a board member on the Delaware Board of Licensure and Discipline.
He and his family relocated to the Triangle to become Medical Director of a large Gastroenterology group in Raleigh/Cary.
He is the current Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine at WakeMed Cary Hospital and Chair of Peer Review-Cary. He is a board member of WakeMed Raleigh Hospital Peer Review.
He is board-certified in Gastroenterology and a member of the American Gastroenterological Association.
Dr. Shah has broad expertise in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. His expertise includes treatment of esophageal, colon and liver disease, gastrointestinal bleeding/anemia, colon cancer screening, GERD and Barrett's, inflammatory bowel disease and more.
He utilizes a variety of endoscopic procedures to manage a wide variety of emergent and non-emergent gastrointestinal diseases.
When not seeing patients, Dr. Shah enjoys exploring all the Triangle has to offer with his wife and three children.

The staff were wonderful. They took their time and answered all my questions. They made me feel extremely comfortable and eased my anxiety about the procedure.

This was my first visit but I had a very good first impression. Very personable and thorough.
Dr. Shah and the staff at Clayton were fantastic. Excellent care. Dealing with the larger practice was terrible. Multiple miscommunications and conflicting information before the procedure. No one at the call center I kept getting routed to could tell me clearly the date, time, location, or cost of the colonoscopy. I paid in full on the day, then a week later got a large bill for a "facility fee." When I called about that, I was told curtly that I had a zero balance and could disregard the bill. I tried to communicate to the caller that this was just the latest in a long series of mistakes and that the overall experience had been unpleasant. She interrupted, insisting that the bill was not sent in error. I said, "But you're saying I have a zero balance and I just got a bill for $350." She again interrupted with a long schpiel about why it happened, but that they had not made any mistakes. She was clearly put out with me and uninterested in my feedback. I will do my best to avoid this practice in the future - though, again, Dr. Shah and the staff at Clayton were great.
Dr. Shah is very very caring and listens to all your concerns. He tells you what procedures and/ or tests he wants to do to try to solve the issues you are having. I feel very fortunate to have him as my physician and refer him to any of my friends who have similar issues. Marie Parker

The whole staff was amazing from front desk to medical staff. Dr Shah was very kind and took the time to make me feel like I was the only patient in that day. The whole procedure was done in an 2 hours. And I felt great when I got home. Tired but could still function. Will diffidently go back for my next colonoscopy. I highly recommend them.
