Andrew Prince, MD, is an American Academy of Ophthalmology-certified ophthalmologist serving the residents of Manhattan's Upper East Side and Oradell, New Jersey, from his practice, Andrew M. Prince MD Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery. Dr. Prince offers customized treatments for a variety of ophthalmologic issues, including cataracts, glaucoma, and dry eye. His decision to pursue a career in medicine was totally driven by a desire to give back to his community, a value emphasized as part of his family’s culture. Witnessing the impact that healthcare can have on individuals and communities motivated him to contribute to the well-being of others. Combining this altruistic incentive with his strength in science, he recognized the vital role that medicine plays in enhancing and supporting lives.
His reasons for choosing to specialize in ophthalmology were two-fold. The first was an appreciation for the importance of vision. This valuable sense allows us to perceive and interpret the world around us, providing crucial information about our surroundings, making it integral to most of our daily activities and connecting to the world around us. Secondly, as a medical student, he was always interested in the medical specialties that required a physician to manage the medical as well as surgical treatments of a given disease, with ophthalmology being one of those areas.
As a glaucoma and anterior segment surgeon, he medically and surgically treats young adult and adult patients with all forms of glaucoma, cataracts, and other anterior segment diseases. At his private practice in New Jersey, he provides state of the art diagnostic tools in the management of his patients and has a top-notch support staff.
Glaucoma is a chronic disease requiring regular follow up for testing and confirming maintenance of treatment goals. This obligatory regular follow up facilitates building strong relationships with patients. This close continuity of care allows for a greater understanding of the patient's medical history, preferences, and unique needs. Additionally, establishing a rapport over time fosters trust and open communication, enabling him to adapt his approach to individual patients.
