Dr. Alan Wagner is recognized internationally as an innovator in the treatment of patients with retinal and macula disease, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, ocular oncology, and the application of Lean Six Sigma to healthcare delivery. Dr. Wagner’s integrated team approach enables the latest in diagnosis, treatment, and leading-edge research.
He is an inventor, lectures and collaborates internationally, and publishes in peer-reviewed literature. Dr. Wagner attended Northwestern University, followed by Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency and served as Chief Resident at Eastern Virginia Medical School and his vitreoretinal fellowship at Weill Cornell University Medical Center-New York Hospital.
Dr. Wagner is engaged in setting and advocating healthcare policy, currently serving as Chair of the American College of Surgeons’ Advisory Council for Ophthalmic Surgery and in the past positions including President of the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Secretariat of State Affairs and Counselor for the American Academy of Ophthalmology, President of the Medical Society of Virginia Foundation, Board of Visitors as well as Trustee at Eastern Virginia Medical School, President of the Virginia Beach Medical Society, and appointed by five Virginia Governors to multiple Commissions and Board positions.
Dr. Wagner is actively involved in several charitable and fraternal organizations, most recently the Board of WHRO, a multi-community not-for-profit NPR/PBS radio, TV, and educational institution serving Virginia and North Carolina. He is a third-generation Mason, Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA, jet pilot, and an avid fine art photographer.
Dr. Wagner and his wife, Jody, enjoyed raising their four children in Coastal Virginia.

Excellent Eye Doctor and Surgeon. He is exceptional and after dealing with an eye issue and visiting other optometrist and eye doctors, my neighbor gave me his name and he was able to do the surgery and resolve my eye issue. I will recommend Dr. Wagner to all my friends and family when they need a Specialist. His staff is very accommodating, friendly and helpful.

Dr Stan Wagner-OUTSTANDING EYE SPECIALIST- Fabulous and very knowledgeable and great expertise in the field corrected my eye issues with surgery. I am thrilled I found him through a referral. I had been to 3 others eye doctors that blew me off with the issue with a wait and see or lacked the knowledge how to correct the eye issue.
