Meet Dr. Ashford

Melvin Ashford, MD, is an expert urogynecologist helping patients at his practice in Maplewood, Minnesota. Dr. Ashford has dedicated his surgical career to the evaluation and treatment of women with vaginal and pelvic disorders or concerns. He is one of the first physicians in the nation to be board certified in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (now known as urogynecology). He has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and other complex pelvic floor conditions. His goal is restoring pelvic organs to their normal, symptomless state both functionally and anatomically.

Dr. Ashford earned his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine in 1997. He completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and his fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center. He rounded out his medical training at St. Peter's University Health Center for Women, where he received formal training on the surgical and medical management of women with pelvic floor disorders and urinary incontinence.

Following his training, Dr. Ashford worked at Healtheast Care System, Aspen Medical Group, and Minnesota Women's Care, where he was named the executive and medical director.

Dr. Ashford continuously monitors advancements in the field and has traveled the world to learn and perfect his skill sets to better address the needs of his patients. Over the past eight years, he was worked with doctors in Italy, Austria, London, Scotland, and the U.S. His training in female pelvic reconstructive surgery, OBGYN, and cosmetic gynecology combined with a keen aesthetic eye result in raving accolades from his patients. He has been named a "Top Doctor" by MPLS/St. Paul Magazine every year since 2014.
