Dr. Makower brings more than 35 years of experience in podiatry, orthopedic surgery, limb salvage, and ankle reconstruction to Downstate Foot & Ankle Podiatry, located in Fort Greene, Flatbush, East Flatbush, Brownsville, and Bedford Stuyvesant, in Brooklyn, New York.
Dr. Makower grew up in various parts of Central Brooklyn, including Crown Heights, Fort Green, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens. After graduating from SUNY Binghamton he began his professional education at Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, where he earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM). After completing a surgical residency program at one of the Harvard affiliated hospitals in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Makower returned home to begin his professional career in Central Brooklyn.
Outside of treating patients at Downstate Foot & Ankle Podiatry, Dr. Makower has served as the chief of podiatric medicine and surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital Center and The State University of New York Downstate Medical Center’s University Hospital of Brooklyn. There, he developed and ran the podiatric surgical and medical residency programs. Dr. Makower is also a full-time faculty member at Brooklyn One Health System. He currently holds staff privileges at Brooklyn One Health Systems, Beth Israel / Mt Sinai Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist, and The Brooklyn Hospital Center.
When Dr. Makower isn’t spending time with patients, you can find him participating in postgraduate training programs in pediatrics, orthopedics, diabetic foot care, podiatric surgery, and sports medicine at each of his Hospital affiliates.
Dr. Makower also is proud to have had the opportunity to participate in medical missions in Guyana and throughout the Caribbean Islands, bringing his skill and care to men women and children in need.
Dr. Makower believes in working on health-related issues as a team with the primary care physician, patient, family, and associated healthcare professionals. The office emphasizes patient education and communication to tailor treatment plans for each patient on an individual basis. Loretta Cacace, DPM, brings nearly half a decade of experience in podiatry and orthopedic surgery to Downstate Foot & Ankle Podiatry, serving patients throughoutFort Greene, Flatbush, East Flatbush, Brownsville, and Bedford Stuyvesant in Brooklyn, New York.
Dr. Cacace began her professional education at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in neuroscience. After graduation, she decided to pursue a graduate degree and enrolled at Hunter College, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York, where she earned her master’s degree in public health.
After studying at Hunter College, Dr. Cacace enrolled at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in Harlem, New York. She excelled in the program and graduated with her Doctor of Podiatry (DPM) four years later.
As a member of the Downstate Foot & Ankle Podiatry team, Dr. Cacace specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of podiatric problems, including bunions, corns, diabetic foot problems, and foot pain. Dr. Cacace loves spending one-on-one time with her patients and takes care to answer their questions and alleviate their concerns.
