Tawnya Pfitzer, DPM, is an experienced podiatrist specializing in foot and ankle health for the entire family. Whether she’s treating an infant or an adult, Dr. Pfitzer offers a wide range of services at Desert Canyon Foot & Ankle in Avondale, Arizona, where she’s known for her kind and gentle touch.
After receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona, where she was a member of the honors college and attended on a Presidential Scholarship, Dr. Pfitzer graduated with honors from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. She completed a surgical residency at Northridge Hospital in Van Nuys, California, and has studied both the general practices of medicine and surgery.
Her interests include biomechanics, sports medicine, and pediatrics, and she has extensive training in diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment of both chronic and acute issues.
In addition to her practice, Dr. Pfitzer currently trains podiatry students from Midwestern University in Glendale, California. She lives locally with her husband and two daughters.
Justin Singh, DPM, is a fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon. He serves patients at HealthyU Clinics at our Surprise, Avondale, Glendale, and Chandler, Arizona, clinics.
Dr. Singh grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. After completing his undergraduate degree at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, he completed his podiatric medical education at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Singh completed a reconstructive surgery and deformity correction fellowship where he advanced his training in revisional foot and ankle surgery, complex limb salvage, peripheral nerve surgery, and total ankle replacement.
He also furthered his surgical skillset by obtaining extensive training in microsurgery of the lower limb, local orthoplastic flaps, and external fixation. During his fellowship year, he also served as the team physician for their local high school football team.
Dr. Singh completed a reconstructive foot and ankle surgery residency at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, where he gained extensive experience in the reconstruction of the foot and ankle, complex diabetic limb salvage, sports medicine, and trauma. He has presented at national conferences and remains current with surgical and non-surgical treatment options.
Dr. Singh is an associate member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association.

James Schmidt, DPM is a highly skilled podiatrist dedicated to serving patients at HealthyU Clinics at our Gilbert, Avondale, and Phoenix, Arizona, clinics. Dr. Schmidt enjoys treating the foot and ankle and all that it entails. He grew to love the Arizona desert while attending Podiatry School at Midwestern University here in Glendale, Arizona. Residency training took Dr. Schmidt to Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he received extensive medical and surgical training in all aspects of the foot and ankle. Dr. Schmidt is an associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (AACFAS). Additionally, he is Board Qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS) and is a Board Certified Diplomat for the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. He successfully completed a rigorous 3-year residency training at Maricopa Medical center in Phoenix, a level 1 trauma and burn center, consisting of a 1-year General Surgery/Trauma/Burn internship followed by a focused 2-year Podiatric and Orthopedic surgical inpatient service and high-volume community health clinic.

Dr. Devin Bland graduated from Midwestern University in 2013. After graduation, he completed his surgical residency at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Bland chose to further his surgical skill set by completing one of the premier lower extremity reconstruction fellowships with the American Foundation of Lower Extremity Surgery and Research. Dr. Bland welcomes all forms of pathology. He has a special interest in Charcot Reconstruction, Total Ankle Arthroplasty, Revision Surgery, Pediatrics, and other complex presentations.
Dr. Bland holds multiple board certifications. He currently practices in a multispecialty group in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Bland is adjunct faculty at Midwestern University. Dr. Mark T. Lewis was born in Knoxville, Tennessee and raised in Southern California. He graduated from The University of California, San Diego. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology in 1990. The next two years he worked as a research assistant in Immunopharmacology at one of the leading Cancer Research Centers in the United States. After spending the next year working in the private sector at a pharmaceutical company, Dr. Lewis enrolled in Podiatry school in 1993.
He received his Doctrate of Podiatric Medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1997. Dr. Lewis completed 4 years of residency training in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery: two years at The Veterans Administration Hospital in West Los Angeles and two years at The Franciscan Foot and Ankle Institute in Seattle. He served the role of chief resident at both residencies.
Dr. Lewis trained with both podiatric and orthopedic surgeons during his residency. He was fortunate to be able to travel internationally to the Philippines and Mexico to perform surgical treatment of complex deformities to the citizens of these countries. After graduating from his residency, Dr. Lewis remained very active in academics and residency training of both podiatric, osteopathic, and allopathic residents. He participated on the residency training committee for many years and was awarded multiple times the instructor of the year award by the residents he trained.
After residency, Drs. Mark and Petrina Lewis founded Northwest Foot and Ankle Center, PS and provided conservative and surgical treatment as members of a large Orthopedic Surgery Practice in Renton, Washington. After leaving the orthopedic practice in 2005, Dr. Lewis continues to practice in Renton focusing on conservative and surgical management of foot and ankle problems. He has a particular interest in podiatric biomechanics, orthotics, sports medicine, heel pain, and regenerative medicine.
Dr. Lewis is Board Certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Washington State Podiatric Medical Association.
