Foot and Ankle Specialist Scott Hanauer, DPM, believes excellent patient care is based on a foundation of compassion, trust, and expertise. Maurice Betesh, DPM, is a podiatrist and the proud founder of Podiatry Healthcare Associates. Dr. Betesh understands how challenging it is to get around New York City with foot and ankle issues, so he set up three office locations in Brooklyn at Midwood, Clinton Hills, and Marine Park, to make podiatric care accessible to adults and children from his local community.

Dr. Emmanuel Bustos received his medical degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. His podiatric surgery residency was completed at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he received his Podiatric Medicine and Surgery with Reconstructive Rear foot and Ankle Certification. Dr. Bustos specializes in Podiatric treatments such as bunion surgical correction, pediatric foot problems, toenail fungus, foot fracture repair, sports injuries, diabetic foot issues, procedures for heel spurs and issues with the ankle. Dr. Bustos truly enjoys treating his patients and his patients appreciate him as well. Dr. Bustos is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Dr. Howard Reifer received his medical degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. His primary podiatric residency was completed at the Brunswick General Hospital and podiatric surgical fellowship training was completed at the Brooklyn Hospital Center. Dr. Howard Reifer has practiced podiatry for over 15 years and has earned a reputation for excellent care. Bryan Makower, DPM, is board certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (ABPS) and has experience in all aspects of podiatric medicine. He holds board certification from the American Board of Podiatric Medicine (ABPM) in podiatric orthopedics and primary medicine. He is also board certified in wound care by the American Professional Wound Care Association as well as certified in hyperbaric medicine for advanced treatment of difficult wounds and limb salvage.

Dr. Makower brings more than 35 years of experience in podiatry, orthopedic surgery, limb salvage, and ankle reconstruction to Downstate Foot & Ankle Podiatry, located in Fort Greene, Flatbush, East Flatbush, Brownsville, and Bedford Stuyvesant, in Brooklyn, New York. 

Dr. Makower grew up in various parts of Central Brooklyn, including Crown Heights, Fort Green, and Prospect Lefferts Gardens. After graduating from SUNY Binghamton he began his professional education at Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, where he earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM). After completing a surgical residency program at one of the Harvard affiliated hospitals in Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Makower returned home to begin his professional career in Central Brooklyn.  

Outside of treating patients at Downstate Foot & Ankle Podiatry, Dr. Makower has served as the chief of podiatric medicine and surgery at The Brooklyn Hospital Center and The State University of New York Downstate Medical Center’s University Hospital of Brooklyn. There, he developed and ran the podiatric surgical and medical residency programs. Dr. Makower is also a full-time faculty member at Brooklyn One Health System. He currently holds staff privileges at Brooklyn One Health Systems, Beth Israel / Mt Sinai Medical Center, New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist, and The Brooklyn Hospital Center.

Dr. Cacace began her professional education at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in neuroscience.
