He attended Morehouse College in Georgia where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology. He earned his Bachelor of Science in bio-medical sciences at the University of South Florida. He then earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in Ohio. He rounded out his medical training with a reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgical residency at Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System.

Please Welcome Dr. Danielle Mustico
Dr. Danielle Mustico graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. With an interest in sports medicine, she achieved certification as an Exercise Physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. Mustico studied French Language at the Sorbonne Université in Paris, France. She then earned her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago, where she received multiple awards for community service involvement. Dr. Mustico was named a Franklin Fellow, where she spearheaded her own community outreach project focused on educating elementary aged children on health and fitness.
Then, Dr. Mustico completed a three-year surgical residency at Denver Health and Hospital Authority, the largest Level 1 trauma center in Colorado, where she acted as Chief Resident in her final year. She received extensive training working with the orthopedics trauma team as well as focusing on arthroscopy, minimally invasive surgery, forefoot reconstruction, and rare diseases and deformities
Dr. Mustico specializes in sports medicine, both adult and pediatric, trauma, and forefoot reconstruction including bunions and hammertoes. Her surgical expertise ranges from simple and complex trauma including tendon ruptures, fractures, bunions, hammertoes, minimally invasive surgery, arthroscopy, plantar fasciitis, fascial releases, diabetic wound care, and limb salvage. Trinh Nguyen, DPM, is a podiatrist with the Cortez Foot & Ankle Specialists team. Dr. Nguyen sees patients at the practice's Bradenton and University Park/Sarasota, Florida offices.
Dr. Nguyen graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, with a Bachelor of Science in natural sciences. She then earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami, Florida.
After obtaining her degree, she completed a three-year podiatric medical and surgical residency at Westchester General Hospital in Miami, Florida. Dr. Nguyen’s training includes all aspects of the forefoot and rearfoot surgery and extensive diabetic wound care.
She is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the American Podiatric Medical Association, and the Florida Podiatric Medical Association. Meet Dr. Badell
Bethany Badell, DPM, is an experienced podiatric physician serving patients at Cortez Foot & Ankle Specialists. She sees patients at the practice's Bradenton and Ellenton, Florida offices.
Dr. Badell graduated cum laude from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry. She also played four years of NCAA Division III softball.
Dr. Badell furthered her education, earning her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago, Illinois. She graduated as a pi delta honoree and received the ABFAS Michael L. Stone Student Award.
After graduating, Dr. Badell completed a three-year podiatric medical and surgical residency at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital of Indianapolis in Indiana. She served as chief resident in her final year. During this residency, she was extensively trained in all aspects of foot and ankle clinical and surgical treatment.
Her surgical experience ranges from bunion and hammertoe correction, soft tissue procedures, and complex flatfoot deformity correction to nerve releases, minimally invasive procedures, diabetic wound care, limb salvage, revision surgery, trauma, and Charcot reconstruction. Dr. Badell's special interests lie in sports-related injuries, podopediatrics, and lower extremity biomechanics.
Dr. Badell is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, the American Podiatric Medical Association, and the Florida Podiatric Medical Association. She is certified in ankle and rearfoot arthroscopy and the Zimmer- Biomet total ankle replacement system. Dr. Badell has also attended numerous instructive surgical labs.
Although born in southwest Florida, Dr. Badell has spent most of her upbringing and education in Minnesota and the northern Midwest. She is excited to return to Florida with her husband and dogs and is particularly looking forward to mild winters, fresh seafood, and observing the gulf’s wildlife.
Having a personal experience with foot and ankle injuries, Dr. Badell strives to treat each patient as she would want to be treated herself. Her goal is to not only give patients a diagnosis and treatment but ensure they feel listened to, educated, and empowered to make decisions regarding health and well-being.

Michelle Emery, DPM, is a highly-trained podiatrist with the team at Cortez Foot & Ankle Specialists and sees patients at their offices in Bradenton and Sarasota, Florida. Dr. Emery graduated summa cum laude from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Science in biology. She then earned her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of the Sterling Hartford DiPrimio Honorary Society. After obtaining her degree, she returned to New England and completed a three-year podiatric medical and surgical residency at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. While there, she received extensive training in all aspects of forefoot and rearfoot care. Her surgical experience ranges from the correction of bunions and hammertoes to Charcot reconstructions, pediatric flatfoot correction, and trauma.
Always striving to further her medical knowledge to provide the best and most up-to-date care for her patients, Dr. Emery has attended numerous training and certification courses and is STAR total ankle replacement certified. Meet Dr. Harte
Garrett Harte, DPM, is a board-certified podiatrist and foot surgeon. Dr. Harte joined Cortez Foot & Ankle Specialists in 1998 after practicing in the Fort Myers area and currently sees patients at their main office in Bradenton and in Ellenton, Florida. His philosophy is to treat all his patients as if they were part of his own family and give them the best care he can at all times.
Dr. Harte received his Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and received his doctorate at the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his two-year surgical residency at West Jersey Health Systems and Wound Care Center in Camden, New Jersey. During his residency, he volunteered his time with a team of fellow surgeons in Guatemala to perform reconstructive foot and ankle surgery on children. He found his mission, and pediatrics as a whole, very rewarding.
He was past chair of the credentials committee at Manatee Memorial Hospital and on the executive board.
Dr. Harte completed the Florida Ironman in 2009 and enjoys treating fellow athletes. His wife, Christine, is a personal trainer here in Manatee County. He spends most of his free time with his three grown children – Jonathan, Patrick, and Kaylee.

Meet Dr. Baldinger
Philip Baldinger, DPM, is a highly trained podiatrist with the team at Cortez Foot & Ankle Specialists and sees patients at their offices in Bradenton and Sarasota, Florida. Dr. Baldinger graduated from Haverford College in suburban Philadelphia and The Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine, where he won national awards in biomechanics and gait analysis. He completed his surgical residency at Northern Virginia Podiatric Residency, an affiliate of Georgetown University Hospital, where he performed over 1,500 foot and ankle procedures.
Dr. Baldinger joined Cortez Foot & Ankle Specialists in 1995 after practicing in Northern Virginia, where he grew up. He is the former president of Region 5 (Florida) of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). ACFAS is the pre-eminent surgical academy in the profession to address the educational and surgical needs of the podiatric surgeon and patient.
When not spending time with his wife, kids, dogs, and cats, you may find Dr. Baldinger on a nearby soccer field or "pitch" enjoying a workout with the younger players.

Meet Dr. Katz
Experienced podiatrist Robert Katz, DPM, joined Cortez Foot & Ankle Specialists in 1991, and he sees patients at their main office in Bradenton and in Sarasota, Florida.
Dr. Katz graduated from the University of Florida and the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. During his surgical residency at Maryland General and Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore, Dr. Katz rotated through affiliate facilities of Johns Hopkins University. He later received his Master of Business Administration from the University of South Florida in May 2001.
Dr. Katz has remained highly active in the medical community and is a past president of the Florida Podiatric Medical Association. He has a special interest in electronic healthcare records and is very involved in the digital changes and improvements to Cortez Foot and Ankle Specialists.
In his spare time, Dr. Katz enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, in addition to swimming and participating in cross-fit.

Meet Dr. Berkun
Richard Berkun, DPM, is an experienced podiatrist who has been with Cortez Foot & Ankle Specialists since 1981 and sees patients at their main office in Bradenton, Florida. Dr. Berkun graduated from the University of Rochester and the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his surgical training at Sheridan Park Hospital in Buffalo, where he spent his childhood. He served on the Credentials Committee of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and was a former Board Member of the American Diabetes Association. He is a former Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care inspector and has reviewed surgical centers all over the country.
He is past President of the Manasota Podiatric Medical Society, a component of the Florida Podiatric Association. He is the CEO of Cortez Foot and Ankle Specialists.
Dr. Berkun has contributed articles to the Bradenton Herald and "Sarasota" Magazine. He also is an avid golfer and sports enthusiast, and he enjoys the theatre with his wife, Sue.
