As an athlete who played football and wrestled at Brother Martin High School in the New Orleans area, Dr. Davis was drawn to the medical profession. His injuries required four knee surgeries with two pins placed in his ankle, and he appreciated the doctor who helped him get back out on the field and mat.
Dr. Davis earned his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, after completing his undergraduate studies at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He went on to complete a year of surgical internship training at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
He finished his medical training with an interventional spine and sports medicine fellowship at Alabama Orthopedic Spine and Sports Medicine Associates in Birmingham. Prior to joining Louisiana Pain Specialists, he worked at the National Spine & Pain Centers in Fairfax, Virginia.

He worked extensively at a regional spinal cord injury center and was named chief resident during his final year at Boston University Medical Center. Following his residency, Dr. Kaufman returned to the New Orleans area as he missed the city he called home for so many years.
Upon returning to New Orleans, Dr. Kaufman was named Chairman of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Ochsner Clinic Foundation, where he worked for nearly 15 years. He also served as Chairman of the Occupational Medicine Department.
While at Ochsner, Dr. Kaufman cared for patients with varying needs. Many had head injuries, amputations, severe trauma, and significant pain. Dr. Kaufman performed the majority of rehabilitation consultations.
He taught at Ochsner and held assistant professorships at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans and LSU Medical School. Dr. Kaufman is a Diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
