Since graduating together in 2000, the practice took over a pre-existing practice in 2001 that had been in existence since 1987. They grew tremendously and soon found they needed more space and doctors to help keep up with the number of patients they were seeing.
Finding the need to provide a comprehensive approach to care and really needing to face the issue of a large number of medications prescribed, they built a team of board-certified medical doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, and massage therapists to provide multidisciplinary care for patients. The team at Health Atlast treats your pain, injury, and illness in a cohesive way. They work together as one to optimize your health, increasing the effectiveness of your therapy.
The Higashis saw the need to have this comprehensive approach in more than just West LA and out of seeing the opioid crisis, high suicide rates and overdose problem they together established in 2012, Health Atlast – the first multidisciplinary health care franchise in the world. Each Health Atlast franchisee has been personally selected and each clinic offers convenient office locations across the Los Angeles metro area, including West LA, which was established in 2014, serving Mar Vista, Culver City, and Venice, Marina Del Rey, Inglewood and Playa del Rey, area as well as clinics located in Sherman Oaks, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley and Long Beach California. Ping-Hsuan (Daphne) Chiao, PT, DPT, is a board-certified physical therapist who provides comprehensive care to patients at the West Los Angeles office of Health Atlast. Dr. Chiao, DPT completed her undergraduate studies at Rice University in 2016, and graduated with High Honors from University of St. Augustine, San Marcos in 2020 for physical therapy. Dr. Chiao, DPT has been working in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy settings and strives to provide excellent care to all patients with compassion and attentiveness.

Dr. Vishal Thakral is double board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine with a subspecialty in Musculoskeletal Sonography. Dr. Thakral specializes in musculoskeletal and orthopedic injuries related to the joints and spine. Dr. Thakral's medical interests include sports medicine utilizing musculoskeletal ultrasound-guided procedures to perform regenerative treatments for all joints including the hand, wrist, pelvis, shoulder, knee, hip, foot, ankle, and spine injuries.
After earning his medical degree from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Thakral completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. U.S. News ranked John Hopkins as one of the top five hospitals in the nation. Following his residency, Dr. Thakral completed two fellowships focusing on orthobiologics integrating regenerative therapies in treating diverse orthopedic conditions.
Dr. Thakral's mission is to ensure patients are on the correct path of treatment whether that be conservative options first or identifying the correct pain-generating source before needed surgery and the recovery that follows. Part of Dr. Thakral's goal is to help patients understand all the available options for them to be star advocates for themselves and to take control of their health. He also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Western University teaching aspiring physicians about interventional orthopedics.
