"Nika grew up in Oregon and was active in sports throughout school which landed her in physical therapy a few times. Nika loved that through exercise and manual techniques she could return to her hobbies and sports pain free.
Nika attended University of Nevada, Reno for her undergraduate degree and completed her doctorate at Arcadia University in Glenside, PA. There, she was exposed to pelvic health physical therapy and a manual treatment style called the fascial distortion model during clinical rotations inspiring Nika to continue learning more in these areas.
Nika enjoys staying active through hiking, and weightlifting and enjoys reading as well as spending time with her husband and their 3 dogs. Nika is passionate about staying active with her preferred hobbies and knows how important this is to her patients as well.”
Laurel was a US FreeStyle Ski team member who competed all over the world. After a few knee surgeries, Laurel found her passion in PT (physical therapy). She completed her doctorate at Columbia University in New York with a special emphasis on sports, post surgical and skilled analysis of people’s gait mechanics. This emphasis allows her to understand the impact of a person’s pain with their gait.
Laurel returned to Reno, NV and practiced under Peter Barbieri. Laurel’s knowledge progressed with extensive manual therapy training and now focuses her practice on melding the two.
Laurel enjoys being outdoors, staying active and of course spending a good day on the slopes. She understands how important it is to her patients to stay active and continue participating in the active lifestyle our region offers.
“Laurel is amazing! She took the time to get to know my daughter and her injury. Manual Physical Therapy is great because you are not just a body being treated by an intern like some premiere places in town. The one on one time and dedication to helping us get better are unmatched!”
Rachael received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Northwestern University. She also completed her dual Degree in Biology and Spanish with a minor in Psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno.
She is a Reno native where she competed in multiple sports prior to earning a D1 Softball scholarship. A head injury ended her career just a year after it started; however, this allowed her insight into the complex and rewarding side of physical therapy.
Rachael is certified in Myofascial Release and has experience in treating lumbopelvic dysfunction, pregnancy and postpartum related issues, as well as complex pain. She enjoys the challenge and wants to continue to expand her expertise and grow the profession.
I have lived in Nevada for the majority of my life and am a graduate of UNR with a Bachelor of Science in Health Ecology. I have been a Physical Therapist in the state of NV for the last five years and graduated from the University of the Pacific with my Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2013. I enjoy doing manual therapy and incorporating functional exercises to get patients back to what they love.
I enjoy being active and enjoy yoga, HIIT/circuit training, running, and have participated in multiple half marathons and numerous 5Ks and 10Ks.
I am a new mom and have an eight month old son and two Labrador retrievers, my husband and I are hoping to make the move from Elko, NV and make Reno our permanent home!
