Experienced pain management specialist Ike Malik, MD, is the founder of Texas Pain & Orthopedics in Pflugerville, Texas. Dr. Malik is a third-generation Austinite and was born and raised in Austin, TX. He focuses on conservative and minimally invasive care of orthopedic injuries, emphasizing pain management, functional restoration, and rehabilitation.
Dr. Malik attended the University of Texas at Austin for his biology, molecular biology, and pre-medical undergraduate studies. In 2011, he earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine.
In 2017, Dr. Malik completed a fellowship in anesthesia and pain medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He was also a clinical and research fellow in non-surgical orthopedics, electrodiagnostic medicine, and sports medicine.
Dr. Malik is a traumatic brain injury evaluator with government certification in neurology and brain injuries and works with the Veterans Evaluation Services in Houston, Texas. He is also board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.

A native of San Antonio, Jim Fernandez, MD, is a board-certified specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. At Austin Sports Medicine, with locations in Austin, Bee Cave, Cedar Park, and Pflugerville, Texas, he provides expert, nonsurgical care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions using conservative therapies designed to alleviate pain and restore function.
Dr. Fernandez completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Texas before earning his medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock and El Paso in 1997. He went on to complete a residency in PM&R at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he honed his expertise in the comprehensive treatment of musculoskeletal issues.
As a physiatrist, Dr. Fernandez specializes nonsurgical solutions, treating all musculoskeletal issues, including neck and back, with conservative therapies. His areas of expertise include performing electromyography (EMG) and nerve studies to diagnose neuromuscular conditions, as well as providing interventional spine injections for targeted pain relief and improved mobility.
Before joining Austin Sports Medicine, Dr. Fernandez practiced in the Dallas area for five years, gaining extensive experience in managing a wide range of physical medicine cases.
