Dr. Mantell is a fellowship trained, orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine. He is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. He received his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, and stayed in the area to complete his residency at The George Washington University Hospital. He continued his training at the prestigious New England Baptist Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital, where Dr. Mantell completed his fellowship training in sports medicine. Dr. Mantell joined Winchester Orthopaedic Associates in September 2017.
Dr. Mantell is Board Certified, and his clinical interests include sports medicine, arthroscopic treatment of hip, shoulder, and knee injuries as well as cartilage restoration procedures.

Matt Gavin, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the knee and shoulder. Dr. Gavin treats sports medicine injuries as well as arthritic conditions.He also has worked with professional athletes, including the New York Knicks, World Cup soccer teams, professional tennis players, and Marine Corps Marathon runners. At his practice in Leesburg, Virginia, Dr. Gavin treats patients with a wide range of sports injuries as well treating people with arthritis and in need of joint replacement. He also has a satellite office in Stone Springs / Dulles that is open by appointment only.
After graduating from Georgetown University Medical School, Dr. Gavin went on to complete his residency training in orthopedics at Georgetown University Hospital, also located in Washington, D.C. His training continued with a knee and shoulder fellowship at the prestigious Insall Scott Kelly Institute in New York City. Then, Dr. Gavin was awarded a unique opportunity to study the latest medical techniques in fracture fixation with a trauma fellowship in Switzerland.
Dr. Gavin returned to Washington, D.C., to practice at the Anderson Clinic for three years before relocating to Loudoun County. Dr. Gavin offers a friendly but professional approach to medicine, making sure every patient gets the time and attention they need.
Derek A. Kram, MD, FAAOS is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with extensive experience in General Orthopaedic Care, Knee Reconstruction and Sports Medicine. He has practiced for over twenty years at the Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, PA, with offices in Silver Spring, Rockville, and Germantown, Maryland. Dr. Kram provides a wide range of effective treatments, services and procedures. He specializes in knee replacement surgery, sports medicine, and arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder. He is a considerate and thorough Physician who spends time with each patient so that they can formulate an individualized treatment plan together in order to optimize the patient‘s outcome and recovery.
Dr. Kram graduated from Tufts University in Massachusetts in 1987 and the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 1991. He finished his residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York in 1996 before completing his fellowship in Knee Reconstruction and Sports Medicine at the Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic in Florida in 1997. During his fellowship, he acted as Assistant Team Doctor for the National Basketball Association’s Orlando Magic team, as well as the Assistant Team Doctor for the University of Central Florida’s football and basketball teams.
Dr. Kram has published multiple scientific articles and made presentations in general orthopaedics and the surgical treatment of arthritis. He also co-authored a textbook on the rehabilitation and treatment of fractures. Dr. Kram is an active member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
With a special interest and passion for sports and sports medicine, Dr. Kram volunteers his time coaching children’s sports teams. He also earned a black belt in karate, competes in two softball leagues, and enjoys skiing, golf, and fitness activities. Dr. Kram shares a similar passion for music, and he is often found at concerts and other live music venues.
