Maher Bahu, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon practicing at Orthopedic Specialists of Oakland County, which has locations in Bloomfield Hills and Clarkston, Michigan. Dr. Bahu grew up in the Detroit area; his father was a lifelong auto worker, and his mother a housewife. With a modest background, his parents stressed the importance of higher education and instilled a tremendous work ethic in their sons. He followed in the footsteps of his three older brothers, who are all physicians practicing locally in and around Detroit.
As an undergraduate Dr. Bahu attended Wayne State University, where he was a varsity athlete playing football while maintaining exemplary academic standards throughout his college years. He sustained a serious sports injury during that time and had a major ligament in his knee reconstructed. It was after this experience that Dr. Bahu decided on a career in orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Bahu then attended Wayne State University School of Medicine. With the advantage of his early decision to become an orthopedic surgeon, he participated in numerous operative cases and research opportunities early in his educational career.
Dr. Bahu did his residency in Flint, Michigan, where he gained the vast bulk of his orthopedic experience. This training program provided him with the skills to become a technically sound surgeon and a compassionate physician. At the end of this five-year training period, he was qualified to begin practicing as an orthopedic surgeon but chose to refine his skills. He decided to obtain further expertise in sports injuries and shoulder problems, the subspecialty that drew him to orthopedics in the first place. Living outside the Detroit area for the first time in his life, Dr. Bahu and his wife Sara, a pediatric nurse, moved to New York City to complete this extra training. Working as a fellow at one of the most respected shoulder fellowship training programs in the country allowed him to further refine his skills. He was able to collaborate in groundbreaking research and perform surgery with world-renowned surgeons at Columbia University/ New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan.
Dr. Bahu has now returned to his home in the Detroit area to serve the community in which he was raised. Dr. Bahu treats a large range of general orthopedic conditions and has fellowship training in shoulder, elbow, and sports surgery. He is committed to excellence in the diagnosis and management of these conditions. He is accepting direct patients as well as referrals from primary care physicians and other orthopedic surgeons. He is pleased to carry on the tradition of quality care started by Dr. Safa S. Kassab as a member of Orthopedic Specialists of Oakland County.

Bruce Henderson, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Oakland Orthopedic in Pontiac, Michigan. As a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Henderson has been fortunate to help patients for over 42 years.
Dr. Henderson believes that we were designed by our Creator to have a marvelous and intricate musculoskeletal system that can function and even restore itself with proper self-care and, when necessary, with the help of orthopedic treatment. His primary goal is to help guide patients through that process to maximize the restorative powers that God has given us.
One of the most rewarding parts of orthopedic surgery is the ability to identify and define precisely what is causing the pain or symptoms of each patient. While the majority of patients’ problems can be treated nonoperatively, when necessary, orthopedic surgery often can fix and restore the problem. It is a blessing for Dr. Henderson to see the remarkable improvement that orthopedic procedures can provide for his patients.
Dr. Henderson specializes in diagnosing and treating back pain, osteoporosis, fractures, sports injuries, arm pain, and knee and hip pain. Dr. Henderson diagnoses most conditions after a comprehensive history and physical, along with innovative in-office X-rays.
Some of the common procedures he performs are total knee replacement, total hip replacement, total shoulder replacement, knee arthroscopy for torn meniscus cartilage and arthritis, open rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL), minimally invasive spine surgery, and kyphoplasty.
Dr. Henderson and the team of professionals are committed to providing care that actively improves their patients’ quality of life. Call the office or book an appointment online today.
