Board certified orthopaedic surgeon Brian Schofield, MD, is a member of the highly skilled team at Schofield, Hand and Bright Orthopaedics in Sarasota, Florida. He specializes in treating injuries and degenerative diseases of the upper extremity.
Dr. Schofield performs total shoulder arthroplasty (joint replacement) for patients with advanced rotator cuff disease, arthritis, and failed shoulder arthroplasty. He has extensive experience in carrying out this procedure.
Dr. Schofield attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, for his undergraduate degree in biology, graduating cum laude with distinction. He completed his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, graduating with honors.
Dr. Schofield then moved to Miami, Florida, to matriculate at Jackson Memorial Medical Center - University of Miami’s Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, where he completed his general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency. His interest in hand and upper extremity surgery developed over this time, so after completing his residency, he pursued a hand and upper extremity fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
In addition to his academic achievements and considerable experience in private practice, Dr. Schofield has served as consulting team physician for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996 until 2013. He's been providing the same service for the Baltimore Orioles since 2003. Dr. Schofield is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
